VIDEO: Why is 'Mad Men's' January Jones obsessed with sharks?

Why is January Jones working tirelessly with Oceana to save the sharks?

We caught up with the "Mad Men" actress at Variety's 1st annual Power of Women awards/luncheon at the Beverly Wilshire on Thursday.

She talked about last night's "Mad Men" wrap party; what Jon Hamm,  John Slattery and Elisabeth Moss  will be doing (Elisabeth is getting married!); and her upcoming vacation.

And she admitted that she's always been crazy about sharks, ever since she was little.

Wow. Didn't she ever see "Jaws"?

"I didn't see an ocean until I was 16, so it's kind of an odd thing. But I just thought of them as I thought of dinosaurs."

And January's not too happy with the Discovery Channel's "Shark Week" programs. "They kind of paint a terrible bloody picture," she said. "It's the wrong thing to do."

We wanted to know if she had a favorite Emmy dress? She did like Leighton Meester's quite a bit.

But she really loved her own gown the most. So did we.

I admire Ms. Jones for trying to bring awareness to sharks being slaughtered for their fins. The writer is obviously very ignorant about the issue with the stupid JAWS comment. When we are all eating jellyfish because the oceans predators are being killed maybe this ignorance will stop.

Easy there, Sandy Smith. While Ms. Jones' efforts to stop shark finning is indeed admirable, it is arguably equally ignorant to hastily dismiss the scientific accuracy of Discovery's Shark Week programs which depict instances of human predation. Citing bee sting statistics, imputing harmless qualities and a misunderstood reputation to White, Tiger, Bull and Oceanic Whitetip sharks is a "bloody" disservice to Science.

i think she is faking loving sharks. anyone obsessed with sharks is obsessed with shark week. anyone obsessed with sharks knows that you tap there nose to get them to go away. she is said in an article that she was surprised the dive instructors told her to kick the sharks nose if they came close. everyone who is into sharks knows this. she was supposed to go swimming with whale sharks this april. what happened to that trip? not happening. i am not slamming her as an actress-but don't be fake about loving something when you know nothing about it. FAKER
