EXCLUSIVE VIDEO: Elijah Wood pulls a Frodo in animated sci-fi flick '9'

Who would turn down an opportunity to talk to Elijah Wood about his voice role in director Shane Acker's amazing animated film '9.'  

Certainly not an avid LOTR fan such as myself. First, we discussed the coincidental "Lord of the Rings" connection between Elijah and his "9" director Shane, who had worked for Weta Digital, a company that worked on the famed films.

I wondered if he'd met Shane while making LOTR.

"I actually didn't," Elijah said. "It's so funny because when we met, I think it was our first day working together on the film, he said 'You know I was an animator at Weta Digital. right,' and I was like, ' What?' And he was like 'Yeah, I worked on 'Return of the King.'

"It's funny because I had gone to Weta Digital and seen the animators because I wanted to see what they were doing, and we must have just missed each other."  

There are also similarities between the characters of Frodo and 9. 

 "Yeah, he's not as burdened as Frodo is, but there's a similarity certainly in his innocence and purity and looking at things from an objective perspective," Wood said. "And in getting people to question the way that they exist and using some of those questions to lead them on a path, a good path."

"9" is in theaters now. 

Run, do not walk to see it, if you loved Frodo, LOTR, Shane and Tim Burton, who produced this film after falling in love with Acker's 2005 short film, "9," which was nominated for an Oscar.
