San Diego Chargers linebacker Shawne Merriman was arrested over the weekend on
a citizen's arrest by reality TV star Tila Tequila.
He has since been released and no charges were filed.
Merriman's side is that he
did not assault the reality TV star and was simply trying to prevent her from leaving
his home in an intoxicated state.
Here's his partial statement: "On September 6, 2009 the San Diego Sheriff's
Department responded to a citizen's complaint that was initiated by Tila Nguyen
(aka Tila Tequila). I was taken into custody based upon that complaint. At the
time, I was concerned about her welfare given the intoxicated state she
appeared to be in and I encouraged her to stay until safe transportation could
be provided."
Tequila, who claims she was choked and physically restrained by Merriman, signed a citizen's arrest warrant charging the player with battery and false imprisonment. He was taken into custody but released shortly afterward. Nguyen and her reps are mum.
What do you think? Who's telling the truth?
My only question is this: Didn't anyone have a car and/or driver on call that night? Why keep her there? Why not put her into a limo? Would a taxi have killed them?

Tila is a joke. She's looking rode hard and put away wet. I think he did the right thing. You try to reason with a drunk! I'm sure there was not enough time to call a cab/car....She was probably belligerent!

I am a feminist, and have very strong opinions about violence against women.
However, in this case, I think Tila Tequila is lying.
1.
How could a man that huge choke a woman that small and not leave any marks that would be seen immediately after the incident?
1b. Why haven't any charges been pressed against him? This would be considered assault or attempted murder? If the police considered him guilty, he would be in jail right now.
2. She claims that she doesn't drink but has mentioned being drunk on her twitter account and drank on her tv show. Even if she wasn't drunk on alcohol she could have been under the influence of something. She has not claimed to be completely sober. Also, if she appeared drunk to multiple people, this would explain his concern.
3. It sounds like it could be a misunderstanding. He could have been trying to keep her from driving, and she may have seen it as hostile. There were lots of other people at the house so how was he planning on keeping her there against her will without anybody knowing. Her claim just doesn't make sense.
4. I hate to say it because I do not think a woman's character should be used to negate her experience of violence. But I think it's important to remember that Tila Tequila is somebody who aggressively seeks attention and that this could be a publicity ploy on her part.
Was Tila Tequila trying to drive drunk? Gee, given her record, I really wouldn't be surprised. Merriman is backed up by the police report showing no visible injuries on her. If the guy was really choking her, I don't think it would go without bruises. Plus, thats just not his style. Some of us knew him at UMCP and he was the kind of guy who lent you a pencil in your college algebra class (he really did to me).
Not knowing all the details, but knowing the suburban area this happened it, to get a taxi there would take 30 or more minutes to arrive. I live in a nearby, but more urban community, and it's usually 15 to 30 minutes for a cab, especially that late on a weekend night. Sounds like they were out in downtown SD (about 20/25 miles away), went back to Merriman's house, and so maybe any car they were using was let go for the night.
This is just another attempt at a reality star trying to get another celebirty into the show and gain publicity. She is a faux celeb leading a faux existence is a modified body - gimme a break.
She's lying about being allergic to alcohol. The police said she appeared drunk. The bartender that served her came forward and confirmed she was drinking, and she deleted a YouTube video where she says she's a bit tipsy/drunk.

Ok....he's 6'5" 250 and she weighs 90 some odd pounds. Do you think that if he did choke her and slam her to the floor, she would have been on her feet, mobile, with no sign of injuries?
