What caused DJ AM reportedly to relapse into drug use?
The latest reports on DJ AM's death from law enforcement officials indicate that his demise was not a suicide but an accidental overdose of drugs.
What caused DJ AM's re[ported descent back into drug use?
Addiction specialist Dr. Drew Pinsky says pain medications probably caused the former drug addict to relapse. "It very slowly and subtly reawakens addiction," he told the Associated Press as reported in US magazine. "I'm not saying it was inappropriately prescribed, I'm saying he didn't know the risks."
DJ AM, whose legal name was Adam Goldstein, was found dead in his apartment Friday with a crack pipe and prescription pills, TMZ reports.
Goldstein had been sober for more than a decade, but TMZ reports that he was believed to be taking anxiety and pain medication for the severe burns and emotional damage from a 2008 plane crash. An understandable fear of flying caused him to take sedatives
The DJ had publicly talked about his addictions to crack cocaine and Ecstasy. But he was working on his own drug recovery MTV series, "Gone Too Far," set to air in October.
MTV has not announced whether it will air any episodes.
Perhaps his death will serve a purpose to remind recovering addicts that it is so easy and so dangerous to go back to drug use.
Has anyone else in recovery suffered a relapse due to prescriptions for pain killers or antianxiety medications?

I think it's a horrible tragedy what happened. I wish his family and friends my condolences. I look at his story like an unfortunate ending to a potentially great triumph. He'd survived only to succumb to a battle he'd won before. Unfortunately sometimes the most beautiful of songs have no remix.

He was not addicted to Ecstasy and never said that (while one can become addicted to anything, Ecstasy is not one of the drugs usually known for addiction).
Hypoism, and ignorance of it, caused his addictions and his relapse. Nothing else.

Hopefully MTV will indeed air the episodes. If in fact it's true, that the show contributed to his relapse, the true waste would be NOT airing what was shot. Perhaps it can bring hope and help to others. The reality is his death, as is often the case, would bring more attention to the show and be more powerful and effective than would have been otherwise.
This is a tragedy on so many levels that didn't have to happen. To the Doctors that prescribed medications for his Fear of Flying, SHAME ON YOU! Fear of flying can easily be dealt with through hypnosis and NLP in as little as one session. Drugs are never the answer to anxiety or fears. Working directly with the subconscious mind is the answer. Find out more at www.FlyStressFree.com today.
I'm sorry, Did Pilot DJ Frost just use a tragic relapse and death as an opportunity to advertise. You have just attained a whole new level of scumbag. And to quote you Pilot "SHAME ON YOU" and you want me to trust you with my subconscious mind.. Think again.
I lost the love of my life for this same reason. Recovering alcoholic was prescribed Xanax and then Klonopin for his anxiety and difficulty dealing with daily life. Not long after he developed tolerance to the Klonopin he was taking 4-5 a day...he relapsed into alcoholism after a year and a half completely sober. Two weeks after the first drink, he died in a car crash with a .23 blood alcohol and klonopin and pot in his system. This can be prevented. Nurses, doctors and patients NEED to be educated and monitored diligently.
This is a tragedy, addiction is a disease and not a crime. Pills, marijuana, alcohol are all gateway drugs for major relapse. If you don't notice the signs, this can happen. Ironic the name of his show, is "gone too far".... I do hope they air it. RIP DJ AM, my prayer and hope , no addict die to the hands of thedisease.
