Were the Tonys Neil Patrick Harris' warm-up for the Emmy Awards?

After his stellar turn hosting the Tony Awards, Neil Patrick Harris may be ready for the Emmy Awards

Variety reports that the actor is cutting a deal with CBS and the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences to host the 61st annual Emmys in September.

The "How I Met Your Mother" star earned raves as host of the June 7 Tony Awards, which -- coincidentally -- also aired live on CBS.

And NPH has already had done a run-through hosting the Creative Arts Emmy Awards, and this year he hosted the TV Land Awards and the nontelevised Writers Guild award ceremony.

That's enough practice ...

Hey, he's gotta be light years better than last year's Primetime Emmy Awards' five reality show personalities as co-hosts.

Including an exhausted Ryan Seacrest.
