OK, who made Angelina Jolie cry last night? (Not Brad Pitt)
In her CNN interview with Anderson Cooper about a plea for support on World Refugee Day, Angelina Jolie got more than a little emotional talking about the children she has met in her work with the United Nations in war-torn areas around the world.
But one boy in particular stuck in her mind. And in ours.
"There was a young boy I met who was about 15 who had been shot
in the back and paralyzed. And -- and his whole family had been killed.
And he was completely on his own.
"And -- and, yet, he had
this really remarkable, unbreakable spirit, a spirit beyond anything I
can imagine having. The -- the things we complain about on a daily
basis -- he had lost everything, and -- and was just so full of
laughter and kindness. And -- and he passed away a few months after I
was there.
"So I always wondered -- you know, it's those kind
of young people that you meet. And you just think, God, in any other
situation, if this person had been given a chance, what an
extraordinary adult he would have been. How extraordinary for his
country, for his family, if he had ever had a chance to have one. But
instead, he had so many horrible things happen to him in his life.
"And -- but he taught me a lot about just the strength, the spirit. I
think of him, and I can't complain about anything. I can't -- I can't
do anything but be grateful for what I have. Because he was grateful
and he had nothing and had suffered everything. So -- and there are
millions like him. So there are many, many stories."

is it just me or does she seem like the phoniest of phonies???
but at least she's trying to do something good. and i think her dad is nuts.
What a beautiful caring woman. I don't see the 'wild child' of years ago, but instead, a thoughtful, empathetic citizen of the world who cares about her family and other families. Good for her. She is an inspiration to young women to show you can overcome a self-distructive youth. But even in her youth she was professionally productive, winning an oscar, two golden globes, and 3 SAG awards.
Great woman.
Um, she also said she wanted her kids to see other people who had less because it would make her kids better people...which is kind of weird. It makes the poor and suffering of the world Angelina's personal zoo/school, all to benefit her children. It is and always will be an elitist option.
@cluegirl: It's you, honey. Get a chest x-ray and see if there's a heart in there.
Very remarkable and awesome lady. I have so much love and respect for this woman! so passionate with her works.
There's something wrong with anyone who would criticize her work and generosity on this issue. Or they're pushing some personal agenda.
Can I ask what about our United States mothers, children, labor workers, doctors, lawyers, etc that are living in poverty because we don't have the resources to help them however our people as Angelina has the money to help the other countries but ours. I like that she can help other countries and nations but is there room for ours in her budget.
(Get a) cluegirl: It's just you. Well... and other jealous women think so too. Let us know how YOUR travels go when you decide to become ambassador for the U.N.
We have the resources to help people in the United States.
Angelina is not writing the bailouts and the budgets for the US.
She is bringing awareness to one group of disenfranchised who would help them selves gladly if they had they ability and the tools, as would most poor people in the United States.
We are fortunate not to have war torn regions and extremism throughout our country and to be able to walk down a street without a landmine blowing us apart.
If you want to help reform THIS country, look at the reduction in medical services offered to U.S. Veterans for rehab, for example. Look at what we are ACTUALLY spending money on, stop waiting for the government to spend money wisely on its people. Demand it.
Punishing victims here or in a refugee camp by "turning away" is wrong! by
