Joe Jackson, Janet Jackson talk about missing Michael Jackson

Michael Jackson's father, Joe Jackson, spoke about his late son to CNN last night at the BET Awards.

"I wish the world had recognized him when he was living. Right now, he's bigger than ever. But I wish he was here to see all this, to hear all this."

At the end of the night, Janet Jackson came onstage to speak publicly about her brother for the first time since his death.

"My entire family wanted to be here tonight, but it was too painful," she told the BET audience. "To you, Michael is an icon. To us, Michael is family. He will forever live in all of our hearts."

She added, "On behalf of my family and myself, thank you for all of your love, thank you for all of your support. We miss him so much. Thank you so much."

What did Michael Jackson mean to you?

Should he have been honored like this -- instead of being treated like a pariah by the media -- before his recent and untimely death?

I feel the american people should let the Jackson family mourn Michael without being "mobbed" as an icon - at this point, there are 3 chiildren without a father and the family is not only dealing with them but also the media and publicity on top of it. Who cares what happened years ago, let's think about the children that has been left behind. Only Michael and GOD know what has or hasn't happened - leave it alone and say a prayer for the Jackson family

GOD bless you all

I wish that Joe Jackson would say that he wanted us to remember Michael as a warm, loving and wonderful human being and a sweet child rather than the "greatest artist entertainer of all times." Joe Jackson is promoting himself again!

I hope Michael can forgive his father for pretending to be so heartbroken over his death. Where was he all this time when the press ridiculed Michael with all the "Wacko-Jacko" crap? Now all of a sudden he appears without a tear in his eye, walking around with not a care in the world showing up to music awards and such. Any true fan knows and remember that Michael Jackson hated his father - and his father know it!

Michael Jackson was a prodigee, a genius,a star,a god. We always remember people then they pass away. We have to learn to value people when they're alive. Michael was misunderstood, mocked at,ridilulized for being dfferent. He's the reason why so many kids sing and dances. He has given his life and much more. He is a trendsetter and will always be remembered. The people that has done him wrong will pay one day for what they have done.

joe jackson: the world did recognize michael, " his fans" he knew we loved him and accepted him, however i dont believe michael knew that you loved him and that you were proud of him all he wanted was your acceptance, perhaps joe while he was living you should have told him..now that he's gone its too late..may God have mercy on your evil soul

I so miss him! I think people should not judge we all fall short from what God intended for us to do here on earth. He should be remember as helping sooo many people (mankind)! This is a time where it should be family and fans should respect that. I hope we do get one time to say goodbye but its totally up to the family!

I know it sounds crazy, but so many of us who grew up with his music understand - I miss Michael Jackson. Terribly. It's been a week and I still can't get over it. I wasn't a faithful fan past the Bad album, but now I find myself obsessively listening to his music, watching his video and rediscovering how amazing his talent was - he kept musical performance ALIVE and relevant to our times. Fortunately the arts community, popular media and fans globally recognized his gifts many times over. But I agree that he was also severely misunderstood in this cynical world, so much so that he was essentially judged to the point of crucifixion in a modern sense by media and betrayed by those he allowed to get close to him ... but getting past the scandal and what appears to be a tragic end to a life full of struggle for acceptance, both inner and external ... I like what Deepak Chopra shared, that while the world thought he was crazy, he thought the world was crazy, with all the war, killing, and suffering happening everywhere. What his death means for me personally ... losing him also means losing a part of my younger self, and more innocent times, and it hurts like hell to let go.

And oh yes - Joe Jackson's presence at the BET Awards and comments to media are deplorable, despicably opportunistic. There is a word for dads like that, but I'll keep it clean.

Michael Jackson was a beautiful person but unfairly hounded and ridiculed by the media. I think he really forgot how much people loved him because the media was relentless.

He was acquitted but the media and many Americans treated him as guilty no matter what.

He was a genius and he revolutionized the music industry.

This world was better off with Michael Jackson in it listen to his MUSIC, "Man in the Mirror", "Heal the World", "Earth Song", "We are the World" just to name a few. He holds the Guinness World Record for the most money donated to charities from a Pop Star. He also toured to places all over the world raising money for AIDS and donating money to ... Read Moreorphanages. He wanted to make the world a better place if you ask me this world was better off with Michael Jackson in it, I know it was for his children Paris, Prince and Blanket. He was not just an ICON or pop star he was also a SON, FATHER, BROTHER, UNCLE, FRIEND and most importantly he was a HUMAN BEING.
