"Beastly" is a new edgy teen romance -- loosely based on the "Beauty and the Beast" fairy tale -- starring Vanessa Hudgens and Alex Pettyfer.

Here's the basic scoop: Kyle Kingson (Alex) has it all – looks, intelligence, wealth and opportunity – and he's mean and manipulative. Sound like Chuck Bass? Kinda.

Prone to humiliating his classmates, he zeroes in on Goth girl Kendra, inviting her to the school's big bash, then blows her off in a particularly cruel and public way.

Naturally she casts a spell that physically transforms him into one ugly dude. Enraged by his heinous appearance he learns that the only cure for the curse is to find someone who will love him as he is.

And with NO plastic surgery.

Repulsed by his appearance, Kyle's dad banishes him to Brooklyn with a housekeeper and a blind tutor. As Kyle tries to get his old life back, he stumbles upon a drug addict in the act of killing a dealer.

Kyle promises the addict freedom and safety for his daughter, Lindy (Vanessa Hudgens), if she will live in Kyle's Brooklyn home. Thus begins Kyle's journey to discover true love in this modern-day fairy tale.

Look on the bright side. At least, there's no singing. ...
