Susan Boyle explains her mini-makeover to Oprah Winfrey

6a00d8341c630a53ef0115704bcf82970b-800wi.jpg Overnight Scottish singing sensation Susan Boyle doesn't consider her new look a "makeover."

The 47-year-old got a $50 darker dye job last month "just to tidy myself up, like any other female would have done," she says on Oprah Winfrey's show today.

"Depends what you mean by a makeover," the "I Dreamed a Dream" singer tells Oprah.

"I mean, my best friend actually helps me with my makeup. You know, I mean, that's hardly a makeover."

Actually, she's right. In the U.S. getting a "makeover" usually means Thermage, Fraxel, maybe a little Botox and Juvederm.

Makeover or no makeover, we're all rooting for you to win the "Britain's Got Talent" show this season.

Good luck, Susan.

For those who've forgotten, here's a review of her sudden skyrocket to fame.

As Scottish women a few years older than Susan I wonder why are people in the US Soooooo obsessed with what someone looks like?

Who CARES if Susan chose to wear a little makeup for 'visit to Oprah?

There's a cultural Chasm here from Scotland to the US. I look at Susan Boyle and the very worst thing I can say is that she is ordinary.

Ordinary as in: like me. Sometimes I feel like coloring my hair - sometimes not. I guess if an invite to Oprah Winfrey landed on my mail box I might spruce up a bit. I expect when Susan went for the audition of her life on BGT she was more concerned about delivering the GOODS rather than obsessing too much about the packaging...

Susan Boyle is perfectly fine as she is - a nice wee Scottish lady - with a glorious voice. People should stop imposing their values on her.

And while I'm on about the cultural divide saying you are '47 and never been kissed' is a self -deprecating joke that Scots women who are not married say.... to make those poor married friends feel better about their own lot .... It doesn't mean we are virgins!!!!

Ah.... there's a lot more than subtitles needed to the Susan Boyle story - a cultural interpreter would be useful. I'd volunteer if Oprah doesn't mind not probing the deep and meanignful questions about what I'm wearing, my weight or my make up!!

Susan is wonderful with or without makeup. Cant wait for her first album.

It's what's inside that counts. However, I hope the news about her telling a fan to 'f... off' is not true.

That can ruin her reputation and career. If it is true, she should apologize.
