Forget the beef. Where's the darn chicken?
Reports of a riot -- and '60s-style protests -- at a New York KFC over free chicken are greatly exaggerated.
"Some customers were upset because they couldn't get their chicken, but there was no riot," Laurie Schalow, a KFC spokeswoman, told Associated Press
The Manhattan restaurant on East 42nd Street plans to begin honoring the coupons again today after restocking the kitchen.
The coupons for free Kentucky Grilled (not Fried) Chicken were downloadable on Oprah.com for 24 hours Each coupon is good for two pieces of grilled chicken, two individual sides and a biscuit.
Schalow said they were prepared for the onslaught but that a KFC restaurant can only serve so many people during lunch and dinner. "We didn't prepare for this extreme."
But Schalow said customers have until May 19 to redeem their coupons, Mother's Day excluded, and she encouraged the public to return later.
Better start lining up before you're actually hungry.

The treatment of animals as commodities, and the global demand for low meat prices has led to the cramped and unhealthy factory farm conditions that bred the swine flu.
As long as people do not see past their wallets, in their scramble to eat for free the processed carcasses of animals raised in a sick, cruel and unnatural way, illnesses like this will continue to flourish.

I would go for the free chicken but walk away if the line-up was as long as it is being reported.

Everyone who is complaining and talking about these chicken plats and how the chickens are treated.... Get a life.. Do you think anybody who likes chicken cares about that... And they are CHICKENS they are mint for food and to be eaten.. I could care less to how they are treated... All I have to say is batter them up and fry them... yum yum
I live in a small town, Wadesboro, NC and our KFC has quit honoring the KGC OPRAH coupons. They are instead giving 25% off. I don't think OPRAH would appreciate that.

St. Francis said it best when he wrote - "If you have men who will exclude any of God's creatures from the shelter of compassion and pity, you will have men who will deal likewise with their fellow men."
