'Angels and Demons' Stellan Skarsgard slams Dan Brown: 'terribly bad writer'

Stellan-skarsgard- File this under: Everyone's a critic.

Actor Stellan Skarsgard isn't a fan of "The Da Vinci Code" author Dan Brown's writing.

"I think Dan Brown is a terribly bad writer, but he has cliffhangers after every chapter which makes you continue reading," Skarsgard told Swedish broadcaster SVT.

"It's like eating peanuts at a bar. You don't like them, but you keep on eating them anyway," he said.

The Swedish actor -- who plays the head of the pope's Swiss guard in the film adaptation of Brown's novel "Angels and Demons," directed by Ron Howard -- said the script was significantly different from the book.

Yeah, cliffhanger scenes never work in films.

Tom Hanks is back as Harvard professor Robert Langdon in "A&D," which opens tomorrow and stands to make as much, if not more, money than other films Stellan has starred in, like those really well written "Pirates of the Caribbean" movies, and "Mamma Mia."

If this guys is not a fan and thinks that it is so horrible, then why do the movie? I personally think that Dan Brown is a brilliant author. Everyone is entitled to how they feel, but come on. If you don't like the author, the book, or any of it, don't do the movie!

he's an actor. he's allowed not to like the writer of the books. do you really think that every actor thinks that every project is something that they love? do you love everything you do at your job? evidently some folks are fooled into thinking that just because someone promotes their work on a talk show that they actually believe the hype. but it is a job. they are paid to be in it and paid to sell it after it's done. falling is the first person i have ever heard say Brown is a good writer. Skaarsgard is right in his criticism. I have read all of DB's works, but it wasn't due to his writing skill, but to his storytelling. Falling evidently is not smart enough to understand the difference. Score one against the american educational system.

"It's like eating peanuts at a bar. You don't like them, but you keep on eating them anyway." Brilliant. And like the peanuts, too much Dan Brown makes your brain lazy and out of shape.

He is absolutely correct. Dan Brown is an awful writer. Awful. But he's a great storyteller.

This is just another BAD movie based on Dan Brown. It is 100% pointless, bad story, but great sightseeing.

I've always liked this guy and now I like him even more, I doubt that anyone even remotely interested in literature finds Dan Brown anything but a bump on a flea's patoot. It's a rare occasion a celebrity speaks out the truth about something not completely redundant to above-average people.

What a idiot this guy is given a role in a movie because of his books now he sounds like a spoilt a star celebrity please i dont know who he is and im 18 the key demographic please stop acting like anyone cares abuut you

I am amazed that so many can

go after Dan Brown in the way they do, including an actor who

has work *because* of Dan Brown.

And it does seem fashionable to bash Brown while forgetting that the writing, is in fact, fiction... These are merely stories and I find them entertaining and stimulating me to learn more about actual history. One can forgive differences of a fiction versus the truth if one remembers that the story is only that... a story.

Perhaps the intellectual elites who comment with such anger are disturbed that Dan may be reaching more of a "truth" than he lets on? Perhaps getting one to question history and look deeper through a fiction is a true "danger" to those who may have something to hide? I do think that this may be the case.

I saw the movie "Angels and Demons" this week and enjoyed it. I can't wait for the next book and movie... I'll be there to annoy the heck out of all the detractors of Dan Brown just like now - LOL.

that is way to stupid idea to play in a film that you dont like....maybe he just needed money!!!!and nobody cares if he dont likes dan brown's book!!!

Stellan Skarsgård is the father of the Vampire Eric Northman in True Blood. He is a quite famous Swedish actor who prefarably act in difficult movies and dramas at the theatre. He liked the script thats why he joined the movie. I personally think he critizised Brown just to annoy common people who generally like this type of easy movies.
