Danny Gans dies in his sleep in Las Vegas
Vegas entertainment legend Danny Gans died in his sleep early this morning.
A ticket rep at Steve Wynn's Encore hotel tells TMZ they just got the call and the entire staff is "shocked and upset."
We're told Gans died at 3 a.m. at his home in Vegas. There are reports his wife discovered his body and called for help.
Gans was named Las Vegas entertainer of the year a record 11 times in a row. He did not perform last night.
A 911 call was made by a family member at 3:44 a.m. for a 52-year-old man who was "having trouble breathing." By the time medics got there, he had already died.
Steve Wynn has released the following statement: "Elaine and I and all of us in the company are devastated at the loss of our brilliant, talented and loving friend.... One of the most unique human beings and entertainers in the world has been taken from us in an unexpected moment. A profoundly tragic event that leaves us all sad and speechless. The loss of Danny, to his wife Julie, his children Amy, Andrew and Emily, is at this moment impossible to comprehend. We will all try to go on with our lives without our dear friend. At this moment it seems almost impossible."

This is indeed terrible news. I knew Danny in Torrance where we both grew up. Although we went to different high schools, we had many mutual friends. One of his ex-girlfriends (he had many) became my special one for over eight years. He had a great family and I still remember his Dad;' house in Torrance. I remember when he worked at the Rio, I couldn't get tickets (sold out). I called the concierge and told him we were old friends and could he find his way to sell me a pair of tix. About an hour later Danny himself called me and told me a pair of tix were waiting for us and to make sure we came by his dressing room after the show. We did and I found him as irrepressible and funny as when I knew him growing up.
I will truly miss him
Danny and Julie were a loving, compassionate couple. Their relationship was, and is, the kind I learned I wanted for myself. I use to care for Amy and Andrew when they were young, and when I myself was going to become a mother, they provided counsel, security, and shared their deep faith with me. Danny was a truly gifted performer, but he was also a devoted, loving husband, father, brother and son.
