Clay Aiken apologizes to Adam Lambert for 'colorful statement'

ClayAikena_BGli_57268494_600 Clay Aiken is sorry for saying that "American Idol" runner-up Adam Lambert's singing made his "ears bleed" on his blog.

But he's happy that his opinion matters so much to everyone.

Here's his lengthy explanation:

Aiken writes: "I'll be the first to admit that my opinion is just that, only my opinion, but for as much as some of the bloggers seem to dislike me and care so little about my thoughts, they sure can waste a lot of their space on what I say! If only many of them took the time to pay attention to important things like the U.S. economy and the welfare of the world's children. But ... nah. ... I could blog about that type of stuff anytime and most wouldn't think twice, but let me say something that they can pick and choose quotes and misinterpret me... and it's showtime! I never assumed my opinion mattered so much! I guess I may have been wrong."

Wait, there's more. ...

"That said, since my previous blog got dissected like a biology lab frog, I suppose I should clarify and even retract some of what I wrote. I am sure that some were upset by my choice of words describing my opinion of a performance I heard from Adam Lambert. I hope no one actually believed that blood truly poured forth from my ears when I heard him. I obviously meant it as a colorful statement to imply that I did not enjoy what I heard. Any performer hopes that their music will appeal to all people, but no singer realistically expects it to. God knows, I am SURE there are PLENTY of people who can't stand to hear me sing either. I wouldn't dream of assuming that, and I am sure that far worse things have been said about my performances than I would even venture to type here. To me, that's fine. I don't expect unanimous, nor even majority support for my music. But my guess is Adam doesn't either. I would not venture to make judgements [sic] on the personality or demeanor of anyone I don't know, so none of what I said in my previous blog was directed as a 'slam' on Adam as a person. At the same time, I wouldn't dream of slamming him as an entertainer. He does what he does, because he enjoys it, and he obviously has many fans who enjoy it as well. If what I said in my previous blog regarding my impression of a single performance from Adam upset or offended any of his fans, I expect that the mature ones will realize that it was simply a poorly worded metaphor describing my personal tastes. The only person I would really dream of apologizing to is Adam. And the irony is, if he's smart he couldn't give a crap what I think of his 'Ring of Fire' performance.

The explanation goes on, and you can read the rest at Clay's official blog.

Do you buy it? Do you forgive him? Agree with him? Or just wish he would shut up?

Aiken talks too much. He should just shut up and go away.

The apology is almost as snotty as the original comment. Not only does he fail to really apologize but he also manages to insult anyone who dares to differ with his interpretation.

I see a big green eyed monster peeking over Clay's head!

It seems a little late to be making a shallow apology for the sake of Clay trying to save some fans.

I personally throw up a bit in my mouth at the thought of even hearing a Clay Aiken song, much less having to listen to it. And that is the absolute truth.

I further think it is honorable that Adam Lambert has no problem with coming out of the closet and being gay... as Clay has. Who is the real loser in this scenario?

The bottom line is people are not allowed to say negative things about gay people. Not even gay clay Aiken. If he had said that Kris Allen's voice made his ears bleed, no one would have cared. That I can bet my life and the life of my children on it. That's how sure I am.

Clay said he did not enjoy the music of Adam Lambert. I don't either. Every time I heard him sing, I kept expecting show girls to drop from the ceiling and start dancing. His thing is pure Vegas. I don't know much about the man, but I think that if that music idol thing doesn't work out he would make a great Cher impersonator. And I would pay to see it.

Clay still thinks his music sucks, and so do I, but he wants the PC bloggers off his back, so they won't CarriePrejean him. I don't blame him. The man has a life and wants to move on with it.

aiken is less than irrelevant. why are you giving him acknowledgment?

Well, Clay, you "stepped in it", again. To assume all bloggers have no life and could care less about the economy or the welfare of the "World's" chidren, is insulting a vast majority of human beings.

I'd venture to say, I care more about the economy than you, because I don't have "your kind "of money. And, the "World's" children? When American children, are in dire need of assistance, is a pet peeve of mine.

None of what I say has to do with singing, personalities, etc. What it does have to do with is, obviously your publicist told you to apologize, lest you don't sell CD's to pay them their salary.

And, again, your nasty comments are a very poor example to set for your child. Haven't you learned anything about tolerance?

That poor kid will only learn from you what you preach.

Clay, Phil Stacey and Kris are all lame and stupid.

I wish the LAT would shut up.
Why ask silly questions extending this non-event?

Clay sounds pretty condescending, self-righteous, and pompous. It didn't sound like an apology at all. He should just get over himself. Clay, just apologize, and keep it short, and that's all.
