Can Harvey Milk save the gay marriage movement?
The Dish Rag caught up with the adorable Dustin Lance Black, the award-winning "Milk" screenwriter, at last night's GLAAD Media Awards.
It was a particularly meaningful night since it was the 20th anniversary of the awards. But there is still so much more work to be done.
And, as Black pointed out, there's much that the gay rights movement can learn from the way things were done back in legendary activist Harvey Milk's day.
The key is "Coming out, which is something we all need to do again and again," Black says, along with " the idea of outreach and education."
He hopes the film will help educate people about Harvey Milk's road map for equal rights and show them, "This is how it was done successfully in 1977."

"Milk" is one of the greatest films of all time. It inspired me to do my part to advance our civil rights (see youtube video called "gay marriage: just the facts") and to come out to more people. In Harvey's honor, let's destroy the closet doors that keep us marginalized.
It's time.
