Brit David Slade to direct third 'Twilight' film

David-slade-twilight Meet the fresh face in charge of "Eclipse," the third film in the Twilight" series, British musical music video director David Slade.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the rising-star director of "30 Days of Night" will produce a less bloody tale, due for release on June 30, 2010.

The third film focuses on mysterious murders around Seattle, a very vengeful vampire, and Bella's romantic life (and after-life) with Edward is getting well, complicated, as you might imagine.

Author/creator Stephenie Meyer raves: "He's a visionary filmmaker who has so much to offer this franchise."

The first "Twilight" has grossed more than $350 million worldwide. The second installment, "New Moon," now being directing by Chris Weitz, is due out on Nov. 20.

We weren't really sold on Slade until we realized that, duh, he directed one of our favorite films, the 2005 scary psycho-sexual thriller "Hard Candy," starring a then-unknown actress named Ellen Page.

If you haven't seen this film, buy, rent or download it. It's amazing. And see if you don't think Ellen might make a surprisingly excellent, kick-butt vampire.

How do you feel about the choice of Slade?

Is it good that all the films will have different looks and different directors?

Or would you prefer a more cohesive approach with just one director's unique vision?

After seeing Hard Candy for the first time, my reaction was that "this guy's going to go far."

30 Days of Night only reinforced that feeling.

It's a bit odd to learn that he's directing Eclipse, but he'll undoubtedly bring something different and unique to it.

And yes, Ellen Page would make a kick@$$ vampire. [As the huckster says in Robocop, "I'd buy that for a dollar!"]

is a kooool movie..........

TheWrap.com's Dominic Patten was saying that the fourth Twilight film, Breaking Dawn, is getting ready to go.

Wonder who will direct that?

Loved 30 Days of Night. Haven't been that into a horror flick for a long time. If 30 Days was any indication of what Eclipse is gonna' be like, I'm on board. Best of luck, Mr. Slade!

Will David Slade remember that the Eclipse series is first a love story and not a blood and guts horror flick? I think he loves his gore and carnage too much to stick to the story line which will prove a real disappointment for all of us Eclipse fans.

He doesn't have much movies in his resume but his music videos are pretty impressive. I hope he can pull it off.

David Slade will make Eclipse amazing. I wish I could be on it just so I can work with him.

Dear Mr.Slade,

My name is Ki Harrell. I really want to be in your movie, Eclipse. The character I want to play as is Seth Clearwter. I already have all of his features such as his long gangly limbs and his wide grin. I can be contacted at Talent Hunter or at this e-mail, franrealestate@sbcglobal.net.

i think its a fantastic idea to have Slade direct Eclipse!! he has such an imagination and when he came out with 30 Days of Night it was just so creative and magnificent. lots of blood and gore, but magnificent all the same. and i also think it'd be a lot better to have a different director for each film becuz it gives you a look into how different the movies, as well as the books, really are even though they're in the same Saga and how these different directors minds work. it's more creative to have a different director do each film than have one vision of all the films come from one director. i mean, if Catherine Hardwicke was filming New Moon, i don't think half as many people would go to see it becuz, lets be honest, Twilight was kind of lame, like the movie itself not the actors, and with Chris Weitz filming New Moon, it'll be a lot better. and now that Slade is filming Eclipse, it'll be 10,000 x better becuz he has done other vamp movies that were so excellent. anyway, i think i've said as much as i'm going to, so cheerio.
