Is Meghan McCain too 'fat' to be a political wonk?

Meghanmccainfat Meghan McCain, the daughter of miniature Republican Sen. John McCain, is furious with radio host Laura Ingraham over remarks about Meghan's weight

"The significant majority of my readers are young women," the younger McCain, a blogger for the Daily Beast, said on "The View" today. "What do young women think when I speak my mind about politics and I want to have a political discussion about the ideological future of the Republican Party and the answer is, 'She's fat, she shouldn't have an opinion'?"

The politician's daughter was responding to criticism from Ingraham, who had mocked McCain's emergence as a pundit last Thursday. "Do you think that anyone would be talking to you if you weren't kind of cute and you weren't the daughter of John McCain?" Ingraham said.

Ingraham, using a Valley Girl voice, imitated McCain, "OK, I was really hoping that I was going to get that role in 'The Real World,' but then I realized that, well, they don't like plus-sized models. They only like the women who look a certain way."

But today, McCain's Beast blog item titled, "The Politics of Weight," took a few potshots at Laura.

"At this point, I have more respect for Ann Coulter than I do for Laura Ingraham because at least Coulter didn't come back at me with heartless, substance-less attacks about my weight."

And on "The View," she told the audience that she "had actually never heard of" Ingraham.

OK, maybe not such a good thing to admit. One thing not to like -- or even respect -- but to have NEVER heard of?

Anyway, Megan goes on about Laura's dis: "It's terrible. It infuriates me. I'm a political writer on a blog and all of a sudden I'm too fat to write? There's no place for weight criticism of women in 2009."

McCain doesn't get how a woman can criticize another woman for her weight.

Yeah, and especially a conservative Republican! What's up with that?

Aren't they all tubs of goo, except for skeletal Ann Coulter? (joking, people!)

"I couldn't possibly understand how any woman could criticize another woman's weight. I'm a pop-culture junkie, and when Tyra Banks went on her show in her bathing suit and said, 'Kiss my fat ... ,' that's what I feel like right now. I'm like, 'Kiss my fat ... !' "

Wow. She's as fierce as her dad!

What team are you on? Team Laura or Team Meghan?

I guess to me as a true Conservative (who believes in "conserving" our Constitution as it was written, with the intent of the founders in mind), the most objectionable part about this article is calling McCain, or his daughter, a Conservative.

As a former 45 year Arizonan that left over McCain's stance on illegal immigrants in favor of his developer buddies, and membership who is an "amigo of illegals" while Arizonans property and lives are being compromised each and every day due to the border hoppers and drug cartels, it's an outrage to even hint that McCain is a Conservative.

He is not. Nor is his daughter anyone with any political knowledge truthfully about Arizona politics much less American, although at least lived in Arizona while her father was "misrepresenting" Arizonans in Congress.

What a joke.

Really, Laura? You're a grown woman and you pulled the, "Yeah, well you're fat" line? How old are you exactly, 15?

God Laura's response makes me SICK. She knows she messed up, yet she reaches SO BADLY to try and make it seem like librals call people fat all the time.

Laura, honey, you messed up bad. Just admit, apologize and move on. Stop blaming everyone else for your stupidity/footr in mout disease. You just lost a good 1/4th of your females audience, btw. Way to go!

Love You, Love your dad! You are a beautiful young lady and I appreciate the fact that you are standing up for what is right!

God Bless.

We absolutely need young people to speak their opinions. I am happy Meghan chooses to speak her mind and not just use shock and awe tactics for entertainment purposes.

Political ideologies aside, Meghan hit the nail on the head by saying "There's no place for weight criticism of women in 2009." Kudos to her for standing up for herself, especially on The View, where we know her only ally is that dummy Elisabeth (criticism of someone's intelligence is still ok, right??).

Megan, if you are going to speak public and give your opinion on any subject, especially politics, you better grow up fast. You will get some heat from many people. Take the heat or get out of the kitchen. Or,join the club of Sarah Palin & family. Many nasty untrue things were said about Sarah's daughter but she showed class by not responding.

Way to go Meghan! It's SO nice to see a pretty girl that's not skeletal!!! Oh yeah...and she has a brain too!

Im on Megan's side on this one. She seems to be intelligent rightfully angry and quite beautiful, the other two are embarrassing to women.

Ms. Ingraham's remark concerning Ms. McCain's weight was adolescent and reflects her own insecurity with her weight. Ms. McCain is a beautiful young woman who has a bright future. She does not have a weight problem as Ms. Ingraham would like to believe. This is becoming a problem where we can not disagree politely but have to attack and destroy. Shame on you Ms. Ingraham. You know better. I am sure your parents are proud.
