'I Love You, Man' Jason Segel, Paul Rudd on bromances
The Dish Rag asked the bromance experts, Jason Segel and Paul Rudd, about male-on-male friendships.
And the stars of the new comedy, "I Love You, Man" explain why it's so hard for guys to make new friends once they're, like, out of school.
Females seem to make new girlfriends so easily. Why are male friendships so darn tricky?
"It's much, much easier for women," Jason says. "We've joked that a woman can go into the bathroom and come out with a new best friend. You know, and they'll have dinner plans the next night."
Paul adds, "But I've also said that a guy can do that too, it just depends on what bar you're at."
Cue laughter.
But it's a serious topic.
"When you're younger, your friends -- they're sort of friends by circumstance, to some extent," Jason explains. "You're in school together, or they're friends of your other friends. And then as you get older, I think it becomes tricky to meet strangers, you know, outside of the workplace or something like that. So I've been very lucky in that my best friend has been my same best friend since I was 12, and uh ... and then I've been with this group for about 10 years."
"Here in L.A., it's such an insulated environment; you're in your car, and you sort of know exactly where you're going, and the opportunity to meet strangers doesn't really arise. And in London, the first night I was there, I went to the pub and had five great friends by the end of the night, you know. I think that's part of what's missing in the L.A. culture."
In fact, Jason's best friend since he was 12 used to live with him. But he moved out six months ago. And Jason's still suffering.
"Yeah, he moved out six months ago, and I gave him like a real bro goodbye. I said, like, 'See ya, bro, have a good time in New York.' And I woke up at 2 in the morning, crying hysterically. And I had to call my mother to talk me down."
That scene would so work in a movie.
If you're a guy, do you have a hard time making new guy friends?
Are most of your pals friends from childhood, school or work?
Or do you make friends easily, like women do, in bathrooms?
