Hospital staff fired for peeks at Nadya Suleman's files

Nadya-suleman Fifteen Kaiser Permanente employees were fired for peeking at Nadya Suleman's medical records.

Great, not only is she draining the California tax coffers, she's getting nosy people fired.

"We always provide training on the importance of patient privacy and confidentiality,"  hospital rep Jim Anderson told Us Weekly. "We knew from the time she was admitted to the hospital in December, this case would attract attention. Numerous training sessions were held to remind people of the need to keep the information confidential."

Eight other employees at the hospital in Bellflower, Calif., also were disciplined.

While there's no reason to believe that any information was leaked to the media (oh,yeah, right ...),  Anderson says to LA Now, "this was human nature and curiosity that got the best of people."

Of course, we can all agree that it was wrong of these people to look at a patient's private files. Wrong, wrong, wrong.

But would you have been able to resist peeking at Nadya Suleman's health records?

C'mon. Tell the truth.

Suleman, 33, now has six of her eight babies at home in La Habra, Calif. Baby No. 7 is due home soon, but baby 8 may remain in the hospital until he's healthier.

Maybe we better check the records to make sure about that. ...

she has not gotten anyone fired, the hospital decided on that, get you brain in order before you write provocative ****. to get site hits, right? then you get more advertising revenue and your editor lieks you! since you dont seem to understand your healthcare service, this is a strict information governance, health records and data protection issue which is legally binding accross hospitals in the civilised world. would you like 23 people totally unrelated to your health or your family's to look up anything, particularly of private or personal nature. it is not known what any of these individuals were looking for or why they ignored their own professional training, hospital policy, the law and extra training they received from the hospital specifically to prevent this case. what was the purpose of gaining information and what were they going to do with it is unknown. everyone has a legal right to privacy and confidentiality and noone who works in the health sector has a right to breach that just because they can. the hospital chose to fire them, not nadia and she could sue over this and would not be wrong for doing so. it does seem like an extreme measure for a hospital to take but thats their choice, nothing to do with nadya. dont blame her. shes such a nice person, however much worry or outrage a parent may have on behalf of her kids and herself, likely shes also sad to hear of this because shes always spoken warmly of the staff at kaiser and shes a people person if anyone can see, not a nasty woman. its very sad they could not respect, her, themselves, their professional boundaries and their employers specific instructions not to do this. it is extrmely sad to see people lose their jobs, especially hospital staff but health services around the world are faced with having to crack down on this which makes nadia's a test case for discouraging workers totally unrelated to your healthcare from doing that to you in future. what, and then selling your health details to the press? the money you have made out of a hate campaign against this woman and her kids is partly responsible for the vultures and others, disrespecting this woman, trying to cash in on her case in all sorts of ways as we have seen through your own media coverage which you get paid for astonishingly. its your fault, not nadya's these people have sadly messed up their jobs when they know fully they are not permitted to access other peoples records. its distressing for them but that is the hospital decision. if nadya had been working there, as she has in another health facility, and if she had done that to any patients, she also would have been fired, its just the way this matter is being dealt with currently in this sector. normaly hosptials are very defensive to cover up breaches for fear of legal action so its good they are defending patient rights in a high profile case. wish it applied to all patients everywhere but there are abuses all the time.

I can not believe how negative people are over a single mother. There are thousands of single mothers in the world. Nadya has student loans and if anyone has ever gone to school knows those loans have got to be paid back. I also don't understand why people are saying that we have paid for her home. Any person in America who has a disabled child regardless of the severity is goinng to get an SSI check for the child. So she is wrong for getting the SSI check that any other person in America would get for their disabled child. We are not paying for her home her promoters are, and if anyone is following her story and keeping it alive then you are contributing to the money that is being collected by the people who are promoting her story. People just need to grow up and realize that all across this country there are people raising children on their own. Also they need to realize Nadya did not implant those embryo's into her own uterus the doctor who did this should be held accountable for this he had total control over the embryos not Nadya.

The press should all make a pact to stay away from Nadya Suleman, not make any more stories about her, and leave her alone. The media is helping her make more and more money. No media outlet or show will want to give her any money if the interest isn't there. Make this die down so people lose interest. She won't have any money left to pay the 11 nannies and she'll be forced to take care of those children by herself. Only then will child services come in and take the children away. I'm hoping for that. The kids would be better off away from their nutcase of a mother.

this is so true. ppl don't realise that the hospital staff had peaked at the info because they would have gotten money for peddling just anything about Nadya to the media.

the angels in waiting are a clear example. They've bearly been their for two weeks and already have 'whole dish' on Nadya, please.

She is a single mother in need of help that she's getting. Taxpayers did not pay for her house, private donations from sympathisers did.

Again, as the previous commentor rightly pointed out, she's receiving disability benefits for her disabled child. Since when is something so legal and ethical suddenly wrong?

The student loans are in no way 'paid' by tax payers. It is exactly a LOAN. She HAS to pay it back. And please, how many of us have had student loans and didn't spend all of the money on academic related stuff. Please.

Give her a break, soon ppl will want to crucify all single mothers everywhere. Get a brain ppl, and have heart.

I agree with the above posts. The media is making America hate a woman we don't even really know. Loans have to be paid back, so that can not me seen as living off of taxpayers. Also, what kind of psychological damage is the media going to cause for the children involved. I don't think any of us would like to grow up in an environment where our mom is constantly being publicly ridiculed. Whether or not we agree that the eight babies should have been born, the fact is they have been. Let's not create an environment in which they will grow up feeling like they should not exist. it is time to think beyond Nadya. It is time to think of the children. They deserve to grow up with all the support that can be given so that they are able to succeed in life. It is time for the media to act a little more mature and think about others rather than ratings.

Let's ignore Nadya so she is no longer a star. Let this conscienceless woman suffer through the mess that she has created for herself and her innocent children. Please don't give her the rewards from our attentions that she does not deserve!!

I'm with the other commentators who don't believe that Nadya is the villain in all of this. I've always been amazed at how this woman has been crucified left-and-right. I know that the economy is shaky and that not all people want to donate to Nadya and her family. That's fine. Nobody is going to make you. But what of those businesses and individuals who choose to do so? Why are they being threatened with everything from boycotts to bodily harm/murder!?! Why do so many people want Nadya to fail? I'm thankful to see the enlightening comments that take those trumped-up charges against Nadya and show them to be the lies, rumors, and half-truths that they are. Here is my take on this situation: ( http://ainsleyjo.gaia.com/blog/2009/3/what_are_you_unaware_of )

I thought we were going to save the planet. If everybody that likes kids are like the Duggars,Octomom, and all these other overpopulation shows then do the math 40+ kids for 5 parents. That's a mighty big carbon footprint for my kids to overcome.Maybe your heart won't bleed so badly when the resources for your decendant disappear.

hey squirrel - go back to china if you want to force people or put public pressure on people to breed green. if youre that worried about population carbon footprints, you could just lay down and die. that will make extra space. what a stupid abuse of green ideology. people can have as many kids as they want without ever being accountable to idiots who have the nerve to be alive telling other people they shouldnt be. go get a eugenicist badge, the green party's not really for such ill conceived talk.

The only hospital staff that should have been fired are the ones responsible for allowing Nadya to take those infant-victims "home".
