'Twilight' Robert Pattinson's GQ chat: sex, drugs and dog beds?

Gq_pattison_dishragGQ Magazine's profile of "Twilight" hunk Robert Pattinson in its April issue is one of the best celebrity interviews I've read in ages. Usually these things put me to sleep; same manufactured stories, nothing true or funny or slightly off-script.

Maybe this one is good because the writer is observant and witty, and he also writes about real fans' reactions to Rob during their lunch at La Conversation on Doheny Drive in West Hollywood. (About three blocks from my house!)

And it may be mostly because Rob is sweet, nervous, funny, honest and not at all media trained (yet).

You find out a lot about Rob's sex life (onscreen only, sorry), how he's terrified of interviews, how he slept with his dog when distraught over a cheating girlfriend, when he took his first Valium, doing it with a dude in "Little Ashes" and how he really spends his nights (not in hot L.A. clubs, but at home watching videos).

Here's what Pattinson says about getting the part of Edward in "Twilight":

"I took half a Valium and then went into this thing -- and all this stuff happened."

"It was the first time I've ever taken Valium," he tells GQ. "A quarter. A quarter of a Valium. I tried to do it for another audition, and it just completely backfired -- I was passing out."

And then there's his new film, "Little Ashes," in which he plays artist Salvador Dali to Javier Beltrán's poet-playwright Federico Garcia Lorca and, naked, has graphic sex with a guy.

"In a lot of ways," Pattinson admits "I was kind of crossing lines of what I thought I was comfortable doing. I had to do all this naked stuff."

"There's all these gay sex scenes. And y'know, I haven't even done a sex scene with a girl, in my whole career. And here I am, with Javier, who plays Lorca, doing an extremely hard-core sex scene, where I have a nervous breakdown afterward. And because we're both straight, what we were doing seemed kind of ridiculous."

It gets worse. People were watching. People who spoke a different language. And they were laughing.

"And it wasn't even a closed set," Rob moans. "There were all these Spanish electricians giggling to themselves."

Poor Rob!

He's the most interesting actor in Hollywood. All the others are so fake. They are all dead behind the eyes. He's clearly terrified and who can blame him. His rise to stardom ha been amazingly fast but he is a fantastic actor. I wish he believed in himself a little more.

ew! vile!

Rob is genuine - and I keep hoping (insanity I think) that he can stay that way. He is truly talented - and one of the most creative, gifted actors of this generation - I hope all this hype doesn't make him "Brando out" on us - what a shame - he's our next James Dean/Mel Gibson and Brad Pitt combined - just flat out has alot of style and charisma - sorry Ryan Seacrest - he didn't kiss up to you enough.....

I agree. best.interview.ever

the guy is gorgeous (thanks GQ for tons of new desktop background options) and just seems like the kind of guy you want to sit down with, do a whiskey shot.. and then see how the night goes..

i know how MY night would go... ifyouknowwhati'msayin'

This is one of the best interviews I've read in years. This guy is hilarious! For someone who distains fame - he wears it well. I would love to meet him, he sounds really funny! I like how the writer captures him-much better than any cheap photo!

Well there you go he just admitted he's not dating anyone, and am pretty sure he'll keep it that way especially now that his career has taken off. Don't you see he's more focused on being a great actor. I love the way he deals with the press his intellegence really shows which an automatic turn on. Wow i hope he's not guy just kidding the best thing he could do right now is focus on his career but i think he should also be allowed to have friends you know. Instead of being rumored to all these actress. Best of luck to Rob in the long run and in the future i hope he finds someone special.

To the holly who said, "He's the most interesting actor in Hollywood," you are so, so RIGHT! I hate to admit that I find myself looking up stuff on him on a daily basis. I don't care about anyone in Hollywood. Not at all! And here I am looking him up. What's that about??? He seems so genuine and lovely it's ridiculous. Signed, ANOTHER Holly (truly, that's my name.)

awww, bless him.

He sounds so sweet when he's describing the Little Ashes scene, almost like he was sulking.

I'm sure it was worth it though and the film will be epic.

I hope he is not the next James Dean/Mel Gibson/Brad Pitt combined, because Dean died at 25, Mel Gibson became loony and Brad Pitt has acne scars and has a too large family (Rob doesn't like children, remember?). So he is just Robert Pattinson the 1st. He is himself as his interview made it abundantly clear.

love love love this guy. he has the best sense of humor out there. he takes nothing seriously, especially not himself. i too could give rats *** about hollywood, but theres something about robert, besides the yummy hotness. i would love to hang out with him,i think he'd be a hilarious drinking buddy.and my fave pics of him - the drunk ones. i just look at those and crack up. he's the real deal people - just check him working that blue cable sweater....hello? thats been around since his HP days. love it!
