Olympic champ Michael Phelps admits smoking pot!
Olympic champion swimmer Michael Phelps, who won a record eight gold medals in the 2008 Summer Games, has publicly acknowledged that the photo in "News of the World," purportedly showing him smoking marijuana from a bong, is in fact the real deal.
His statement says:
"I engaged in behavior which was regrettable and demonstrated bad judgment. I'm 23 years old and despite the successes I've had in the pool, I acted in a youthful and inappropriate way, not in a manner people have come to expect from me. For this, I am sorry. I promise my fans and the public it will not happen again."
The British tabloid obtained a photo of Phelps smoking a bong, a water pipe usually used for smoking weed. View the pix here. Check out their amusing headline: What a DOPE!
The photo was allegedly taken at the University of South Carolina in Columbia, where Phelps was reportedly visiting a girlfriend.

People need to allow him to have a life. He's been extraordinarily disciplined and deserves to blow off steam. The last three presidents of our country know what it's like to get a buzz. We need to accept public figures are human and not plastic icons.
Honestly? Why on earth does anyone care? What does it matter if Phelps or any other celebrity smokes pot? It doesn't affect our lives at all. Are we so pathetic that we've put total trust in celebs, and, when they break that trust, we blow up the news and splash it across the front page?? I think it's ridiculous that this even qualifies as "news".
A pothead with 8 gold metals? Time to repeal prohibition.
