Jane wannabe Dakota Fanning hasn't read 'New Moon' yet
Dakota Fanning is really, really excited about taking on the role of Jane, the Volturi vampire in "Twilight's" sequel, "New Moon."
However, she hasn't even read the book yet.
Fanning admitted at this afternoon's junket for her new film, "Coraline," that she's only halfway through reading the first "Twilight" book.
Asked if there was any movement on "New Moon," Dakota replied, "It's not 100% for sure yet that I will be doing it, but it's definitely not like a rumor or anything. It's definitely a possibility and something I'm excited about."
Asked if there was any particular scene from the book that she was looking forward to doing, she said, "I don't know ... I just think the character is what I'd be excited about. It's kind of evil, it's a vampire, it's really cool."
Does she have any favorite vampires from films?
"I don't. The only vampire movie I've seen is 'Twilight.' "
I told her, "Well, then, I guess we know who your favorite vampire is!" and Dakota laughed out loud and blushed.
Fanning hasn't read all four of Stephenie Meyers' vampire books yet, but says she's "working on it.
I'm just about finished with the first one."
So, another reporter asked, she hasn't gotten to "New Moon" yet?
"No, not yet," she admitted.
I mentioned to Dakota that the Vanessa Hudgens "Twilight" casting rumors caused a fury among Twilighters, but that it seemed most comments on The Dish Rag from readers about her being cast as Jane were pretty supportive and embracing.
"That's really nice," Dakota says."It makes me feel good. I know that 'Twilight' is so sacred to some people I know that when people cast certain people, people have their opinions and that's their right. And it's very flattering that they think I'd be right for the part, and I hope it works out."
BTW, Dakota turns 15 in three weeks. She's a Pisces.

Dakota is becoming the quite lovely lady-she'll do fine by twilight!
Well, i think it's understandable that she hasn't read the books yet. I mean she's not normal like most of us, she has a life of her own and a quite busy one.
OMG I LOVE (LOVE) her dress. Where can I get one like it? I think I have to look to Dakota as my fashion inspiration.
hmmm... I really don't know... I'm pretty sure they could find someone better.i'm no a dakota hater or anything i just want her to play the part. and i definitely think she needs to read new moon before she starts thinking about shooting.
I'll admit I wish she HAD read the books... but really it doesn't matter. Most of the cast hadn't read the books before they were cast in the movies... the actor who played Charlie NEVER read the books and he was GREAT in Twilight... So as far as the movie quality goes, it doesn't matter at all, she'd still be wonderful

i dont think its good that she hasnt read the book. well either way i don't want here to be in the movie.
i agree with other's comments on non-celebrities.
Her not having read them makes me a little nervous - especially not ever seeing a vampire movie before. i know this one is differen't - lots are different. it's almost like she isn't really doing homework (yes i know she is still reading twilight) but it gives me the impression that's she's in it for the novelty not the story...
i like dakota and all, but i don't think shes right for the part. Especially since she hasn't read the books yet, how would she know she wants to play the part without knowing what shes about play? I also loved how in twilight all the actors and actresses were not incredibly popular and known, that made the movie better. because they're now known for that part, you don't see any other character they've previously played in other movies in their twilight character. Dakota is a well known actress and shes played many parts before, i just believe she'll portray other characters shes played previously in NEW MOON.
Well, Robert Pattinson hadn't read the books yet, either, when he did the film, so I think that Dakota will do just fine. I can already see her as Jane. I'm so excited.
