'Charles in Charge' Willie Aames explains suicide attempt

Aames

"Charles in Charge" and "Eight Is Enough" actor Willie Aames says he has three good reasons why he tried to kill himself on Thanksgiving.

"Most people [wind up in a psychiatric ward] because they'd either lost a job, a family member or relocated," Willie says a doctor told him after his suicide try. "I was there for all of those."

Aames, 48, opens up in Star magazine about the events in his life that led him to try to take his own life.

After he declared bankruptcy and his car was repossessed, his wife left him. They'd been married for 22 years. He moved out of their Kansas home and into a rented room in Los Angeles.

"I stole a bottle of Jack Daniel's from the guy I was renting the room from," Willie tells the magazine. "I'd been sober for 20 years when I took that first drink .... It got so bad I put a knife to my throat and cut myself in six places."

While in Kansas, Willie was shooting episodes of "Bibleman" videos.

He played a human, who has a protective suit of armor -- the Full Armor of God -- who is transformed by his belief in God.

We're glad you failed at your suicide try, Willie.

Hang in there. You know where to get help.

Willie, you are a good guy. Keep trusting in the Lord bro. My kids love your Bibleman work!

Willie-

Lots of people are praying for you! Don't give up faith!

it really sucks whe your life takes the wrong road, I have been suffering for three years now, my whole life has been taken from me, my life is all narcotics and it all started from the hands of a surgeon, I went in for surgery and came out with so much nerve damage not one Doctor has been able to help it has taken everything I have not to hang it up.

When you hit bottom the only thing you can do is look up. You always have the Lord and he's always testing us. I'll pray for you to find the strength and guidence you need. You're a great guy, and who knows what great things are waiting for you. God Bless you man!

Willie...I believe that this can be to the Glory of God! someone needs to know why you didn't succeed and why they shouldn't even try! God didn't want you to go this way...you have a witness now! Please pray and ask God how you can use this for Him and how you can understand His plan for you...I assure you...you are still in Him plan. You have to live next to Him...stay so close and you will be blessed! You will be fine. I will pray intercessory prayer for you. I am so sad you went through this...I know that if it only happened one year ago...you still have some healing to do...but I hope you are on the way! Bless you!

Speaking as a born-again Christian, I can't fathom how a person can be genuinely saved, yet end up trying to commit suicide. The world is falling apart, *I* could end up losing everything (house, possessions, money, etc.) and all I'm thinking is... BRING IT ON! Maybe it's because I figure, the worse it gets in the world, the sooner Jesus is coming back. Maybe that's what gives me my unstoppable faith in God and Jesus. I figure, even if I lose EVERYTHING and end up homeless on the street, at least I still have Jesus... and that's all that matters. God will take care of me, one way or the other. I wonder how many other true Christians feel the same way in their own life?

yes meee to i did drugs and partied like a mad man and then i became strong and kicked it all in the butt. and thats without being famous and making all the money you have made. snap out of it.

Hmmmmm. I've lost my job. I've relocated. I've lost family members. I'm not in a mental ward. I'm not suicidal. I'm not a Christian. I'm a very happy atheist.

I have a loving family and we all support each other. We rely upon our good common sense and sense of self worth. We don't rely on a myth to keep us going.

We are living in frustrating times. There are many men that are frustrated and want to give up! Willie, I know how you feel. I want to encourage you to fight! I want to let you know that you have done great things for God and He wants to keep using you! Yes we fail but He does not!!! You are a man of God and your heavenly Father loves you and is proud to have you as His son! You hear that, He IS proud of you!!! Keep the faith bro, you have to make it and you will make it! Turn this around and do something to kick the devils butt! it's payback time!!! I believe in God, I believe in you!!!

Luposian:

Losing everything and the effects of an economic depression does not mean Jesus is coming back. You've been duped into believing a myth of gigantic proportions.

You have no physical evidence that this guy even existed. Faith is not enough. Stop "donating" all your hard earned cash to that megachurch you belong to and go back to school and get an education. Learn about other culutures; other religions - yes, there other religions other than Christianity whose belief systems are different from yours. Try not to be so cynical and do something to save the planet instead of just accepting the world as you know it is coming to an end. How sad for you. You've obviously traded in one drug in for another – evangelical fundamentalism.
