Tom Cruise got Katie Holmes a ring after her first audition?
Tom Cruise admits he bought an engagement ring for Katie Holmes after her first audition ... sorry, their first date in 2005.
Romantic or mega-control freaky?
"I knew I wanted to marry Kate when I met her," Cruise says in the Dec. 7 issue of T: The New York Times Style Magazine, in which he and Katie (sorry, Tom, just don't like the Kate moniker) grace split covers of the mag's "Holiday/Reinvention" issue.
When Holmes confessed to him that she dreamed of marrying him as a little girl, "I said I wouldn't want to disappoint her," Cruise says.
"At one point, I thought she was going to ask me to marry her first and I put her off by changing the subject," Cruise adds. "I wanted to ask her."
In a separate interview, Holmes gushes, "When I met Tom I was completely in love and, yes, I admired him growing up -- he's Tom Cruise! ... When I met him, he was so warm and I thought, Wow! You can be a superstar and a human being. He made me feel so amazing."
At least one blogger finds the instant engagement ring kinda creepy.
Mollygood writes: "For our fellow 'Office,' fans, remember the 'awww' you let out when Jim showed off his engagement ring for Pam, admitting that he bought it a week after they started dating? That's not the same feeling we get when Tom Cruise says basically the same thing. Not at all."

Hey, they're happy, so who cares how quickly they got engaged, right? Or that they talking about this just in time to promote his new film, "Valkyrie," the feel-good Hitler assassination attempt film of the season.
Sheesh, I wish we would all get lives and stop talking about someone else's.

Why does EVERYBODY make it into such a big deal every single solitary thing this man does? It started on Oprah when he pronounced his deep love for Katie and everybody calls it a meltdown. Do we women not do the same thing after we are drunk in love? Only difference is, he's a man and did it in public. I think it's great! And now this? He loves her. She loves him. She felt the same way he did. What's the problem? Why is that creepy? I think it's amazingly fanfreakingtastic! I could only DREAM of having somebody feel that way for me? Leave Tom alone for crying out loud. This is why celebs stop giving interviews because of this pathetic nit picking of every single word. How exhausting! GET A LIFE!

We may actually believe this story of theirs to be true or that Holmes is actually happy if she hadn't been looking like she is just a few steps away from keeling over since about April this year. If they are happy and in love then it doesn't show on their bodies at all. Holmes since meeting Cruise looks about 15 years older than she is and she is not even thirty years old yet.
As for buying a ring a week after they met, I think that if this was true, Tom Cruise would have made the fact known as far back as 2005 so I think this is another way for him to tell us just how great and in love they are. He also seems oblivious to the fact that at the age of 46 or 47 that the time for him to talk about how he felt when he met his wife is long gone and therein lies his problem as a man: He doesn't actor speak like a grown man. He still thinks he is in his Top Gun years.
All the effort and time they spend trying to convince the world that they are in love should be spent on each other. Cruise should take a look at his wife and ask why she looks like Pete Doherty's sister.
The Katie Holmes on the magazine is different from the one we see out and about every day. The one going out and about looks like death warm all over, she has been sporting her yellow skin tint for a while now. The one on the magazine has not only been lit right, she has been made to look much better.
I admire this family a lot and this is no L.A.Times but more like National Enquirer.
Holmes is a classy lady and handles everything with grace. That's not the same thing I can say about the media.
All the press releases from Katie Holmes come from the mouth of her Scientology handler Jessica Rodriguez (or some other subservient). Katie doesn't interact with anyone without these handlers being there to direct her. It's sickening to me knowing that this woman's fate was planned & edited all by Tom Cruise and The Church of Scientology.
