Pop2it: Culture. Celebrity. With a Twist

Kitson is feeling financially fit, thanks for asking

Matthewmc_jean_55445751_600 On Dec. 24 I reported that Tracey Ross, the L.A. boutique owner who has been a fashion fixture in the city for close to two decades, will close her namesake shop tonight, on New Year's Eve.

Asked the reason for the closing, Ross told WWD, "Of course, it's the economy."

In the headline, I had initially mused, "Is Kitson next?" But the headline was changed to "What's next on Robertson?"

However, a remaining Google-cached page online seems to have caused confusion in the retail world. As a result, Kitson owner Fraser Ross (no relation to Tracey) is not very happy with me.

So let me set the record straight: I in no way meant to imply that Kitson, the cultural phenomenon retail store frequented by celebs such as Halle Berry, Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan and Nicole Richie, which has come to personify L.A. fashionista destination shopping, is in any danger of closing up shop. Or shops.

So rest easy, trendies. Kitson's not going anywhere, and you can still get all those hyper-cool, expensive designer T-shirts, boots, accessories and denims you've come to love and, dare I say it, need.

...Matthew looks like an old man in that picture...

Seems like you hit Fraser Ross a little too close to home, means you're probably right, Kitson is next down the tubes. Shoppers are in survival mode, they don't need over-priced chachkis when they can get the same goods at department stores for 1/10th of theprice

Are they undergoing layoffs and cutting employees' hours? These type of stores days are all numbered....

the Kitson website screams "MUXO handbags 50% off!" That photo above is from the dog and pony show that had McConaughey and his MUXO designer baby mama Camilla Alves promoting her line at a launch party at Kitson back in June of 2008. At the time, Ross claimed the bags were flying off the shelves. Guess the truth is out now

The MUXO launch party at Ktson was in August, not June of 2008.

The handbags on the Kitson site are now marked down 60%! Looks like someone got stuck with a real dog...

They took their adorable son to Fred Segal boutique the other day and were photographed. What a lovely family!
