Britney's dad, Jamie Spears, strikes fear in British tabloid reporter!
Britney Spears' father, Jamie Spears, is widely touted for saving his daughter's life and resurrecting her music career.
But is there more to her do-gooder dad than meets the eye?
According to Daily Mail reporter Sharon Churcher, a tobacco-chewing Jamie Spears kept her captive, wielding a knife, while he went into a drunken rant about his bankruptcy, his failings in life and his rich and famous daughter. The four-hour encounter took place in an isolated bungalow on a dirt road in rural Kentwood, La., in March 2002.
"Every time I got up to go, he picked up a large carving knife and theatrically stabbed it into the wooden table at which we were sitting. 'You can sleep here,' he said. 'You said you wanted to know what it was like being Britney.' "
She describes the setting: "Two growling alsatians, a rottweiler and a man Spears claimed was a 'bodyguard' prowled the creaky back porch, which had been converted into a makeshift redneck bar complete with illuminated Budweiser sign, beer and whisky. An airgun lay in front of Spears."
The house itself was a "spooky shrine to his famous daughter, with framed pictures, magazine covers, platinum records, concert posters and even used ticket stubs covering almost every available inch of space." To read more, click here.
Spears told Church: " 'There's not a man on earth could be happier than me. I have got the most famous daughter in the world.' But he admitted: 'I squandered my money on wild women and beer.' "
The reporter says she left after Jamie and his 'bodyguard' decided to go to a local bar to buy more beer.
Wait, there's more ...
The Mirror points out that Jamie, who is divorced from Britney's mother and has had financial problems, is now sober.
But Britney's relationship with her controlling former booze-hound dad has colored her relationships with men, including her boyfriend Justin Timberlake, husband Kevin Federline, manager/hanger-on Sam Lufti and even pap pal Adnan Ghalib.
The big question? Is Jamie really doing what's best for Britney? Or is he doing what's best for Jamie's wallet?
From the outside looking in, he has kept her away from her past bad associates, drugs, alcohol and the nightlife, which contributed to her downward spiral.
But with her performing/recording/press sked, when does she have time to get therapy for the underlying issues that led to her breakdown? And does he realize that he is probably one -- if not the biggest -- of those issues?
The Daily Mail also questions if Britney can survive the psychological effect of a worldwide concert tour. Such an undertaking is difficult enough but even more so for a young woman who only 10 months ago was strapped to a gurney being forcibly taken to a hospital psyche ward.
The piece points out that Britney is not allowed to drive her car or choose her own meals. She cannot leave her father's side without permission -- and then only with chaperones. Her phone calls are monitored, and she is guarded day and night.
On her recent quickie tour in Europe, she had a constant entourage of 40 people and left her hotel room only for "appearances." She was not allowed to rehearse with the dancers on the TV shows she appeared on. Perhaps Jamie is worried there might be another Federline in the lot.
Producers and studio technicians were not allowed to have contact with her, and all alcoholic drinks were banned. Needless to say, her hotel mini-bars were emptied before she arrived. Any wonder why she said in the MTV doc that she felt like she was "in jail"?
The DM notes that even Rolling Stone, America's respected music magazine, said that Jamie's control over Britney means she "has about as many legal rights as when she was a little girl."
Is Britney in Jamie's prison? Is she nothing but a trained seal in her own controlled "Circus"?
Is Jamie Spears the ringmaster? What do you think? Will there be a happy ending to this saga?

I will or any of the rest of us know the true story to Britney's life, but I will say that I am a huge fan of Britney and all I want is the best for her! So, I hope there is a happy ending. I pray for great success in her life and a steady long-lasting full-filling career in music!!!!! Great job on circus!!!! I love it!
I beleive that they should make the father back off more. I know that she's been doing better with him there, but he's one of the many issues in her life that need's fixing. Nothing against her dad, but she's not a little girl anymore. She's one of the most famous women on this earth. There will never be another Britney, I beleive she deserves freedom. But there should also be a little bit of ground rules in her freedom. I love you Britney =]
..I don't know. She doesn't seem like herself at all. She used to be so bubbly and full of energy. Her performances now a days just seem like shes only doing it because she feels like she has to. I'm really worried about her. She could have another breakdown and that would be bad because she is doing SO well. I feel like she wants to be back in the game and performing and all that but not as quickly as it has been. Her dad needs to back off a little. I mean common she can chose her own meals. He should have been tough in the beginning to help her clean up her act but now that she has, I think its time to let her lose a little bit. Shes not a little girl. She can do what she wants now. I love Britney and I really hope everything works out for her. Buy her new album Circus, its amazing!
Hmmm, I think her dad helped her during a terrible ordeal.
this is most likely a boldfaced lie. and by that i mean it is. we have to stop beliving everything we hear.
That is what you call tough love if more parents would take control of thechildren lives, the world would be a better place. It is obvious that she is in a better syte of mind under her father, she looks great let him contiue to do whaqt he is doing, regardless of her age, she needs parental support, so what leave her alone, and good job Mr.Spears, more dads are needed in the world like you.
