It's Kevin Federline's turn: It was the kids over Britney
Britney Spears had her chance to speak out about her painful split from Kevin Federline on her MTV documentary, "Britney Spears: For the Record."
Not that she said much about it, other than feeling devastated and lonely and wishing she'd just gone back to Louisiana after they split.
Now it's KFed's turn at bat. And he speaking out in People magazine.
Keep in mind that Kevin has long been accused of marrying Britney for her money. And he tried and failed to create a rap career for himself using her fame as a springboard.
When they divorced, he ended up getting major spousal support and still gets mega-bucks in child support from Britney for their two sons, of whom he has legal custody. Brit has visitation rights.
Is it a shocker that he says that his children became more important to him than Britney? Can you say meal tickets?
Kevin, 30, is raising their sons Preston, 3, and Jayden, 2, and he also has two kids, Kori, 6, and Kaleb, 4, with his ex-girlfriend Shar Jackson, 32.
So what happened? Why did Kevin and Britney divorce?
Find out his answer after the jump ...
"For me, I'd become more concerned with my children," he tells People. "Not that I ignored Britney, but my kids are always most important ... I mean, we were having complications. I didn't give her an ultimatum, but I was trying to work stuff out with her, and she didn't even talk to me or anything and went behind my back and filed [for divorce]. [I was] completely blindsided."
He insists he did not fight for his kids so he could get her money. Gosh, what a silly question. He says that he told his lawyer right off the bat, "that I would spend every last dime that I had to make sure that my children are OK."
So how did he feel that night in January when Britney locked herself in the bathroom with their son, Jayden, and was taken to the hospital, strapped on a gurney?
"That's the mother of my children. Just because I'm not in love with her doesn't mean that I don't love her. I'm definitely rooting for her. There's nothing more that I want than for her to be in the best health and doing what she loves to do."
Of course, he does. If she's working and making money, the money pit will never dry up!
OK, call me cynical. What do you think? Are you suspicious of Kevin Federline's monetary motives?
Or is he really just a devoted dad to his precious little breadwinners, er, babies?
