What does Michelle Obama's White House red dress say? A lot!
Bonnie Fuller, who knows a little something about fashion statements, thinks Michelle Obama made a great political statement with the bold red dress worn to her historic White House meet-and-greet with her husband, President George W. Bush and First Lady Laura Bush.
On her Huffington Post blog, Fuller writes that the red Maria Pinto dress makes Michelle O the unsurpassed First Lady of The World.
"Hear me Carla Bruni-Sarkozy -- you've been surpassed as a First Lady force in the news, and yes, even as a force in fashion."
She also says the color choice screams that Michelle is indeed a patriot.
"Whether she has an American flag tattooed to her forehead or not, there will be no further questioning of Michelle's feelings about her country."
Oh, and she's powerful but not threatening.
There's no coincidence that Michelle chose a dress, not a suit. Ever since she began getting criticized, like many smart working women, because she seemed "too strong," Michelle has made The Dress her uniform.
But she won't be as political as say, that pant-suited Hillary Clinton.
"The red dress says she's stepping into the First Lady role, even if she does revolutionize it. I predict she will be the most powerfully activist First Lady since Eleanor Roosevelt with her chosen causes, but with the inspirit-ability of another stylish mother of young children: Jackie Kennedy."
Last but not least, she's modern. Boy, this dress sure says A LOT, doesn't it?
Fuller writes: "Modern enough to choose a dress with enough curve to flatter her pear shape. Modern enough to have the confidence to stand out in red. Modern enough to understand that one dress can speak to the American people, and make many, many crucial points."
Don't know that I agree on all points but I do agree with this assessment by Fuller.
"Expect Seventh Avenue to be knocking off this fabulous red number in milliseconds."
What do you think of Michelle's bright red dress?
Is there a hidden meaning? Is she the new First Lady of fashion?
And what about that other red (and black) dress worn on election eve?
I don't know about you, but it's gonna take me some time to recover from that one.

I don't see what the big issue is with the dresses she's worn. I think the obama's coordianted outfits looked great unlike the Biden's.
I think it says she's vibrant, intelligent, and classy. And I really want to know where she bought it! That dress is great!
Michelle Obama is a terrific, self assured real woman.
Contrast that to the Stepford wife Laura Bush. I won't miss that plastic smile of Laura. Needless to say, the juvenile cowboy, aka. President Bush, good riddance to both.
Michelle rocks, she's got class and elegance, and she's not going to let anybody tell her what to say, what to do, or what to wear. Good for her!
That red and black dress. Is a big no no! No way What was she thinking?
It speaks alot about her character. She likes attention
i did not care for the election night dress, but i give her credit for wearing it--i think it was color-coordinated with her children' outfits---but am i the only one who thinks it emphasized her belly? i have heard comments to the effect that she may indeed be pregnant, this time with barack jr.---how great would that be???
i think the whole family is just beautiful, after years of the ugly bushes, jr and sr and dont forget jeb!
The red dress is by Maria Pinto, and is about $750. She is a Chicago designer, with a boutique in Chicago. Her line is also found in Saks. She also did the purple dress worn the night Obama claimed the Democratic nomination. See her website here http://www.mariapinto.com/
The black red dress was by Narciso Rodriguez who is fetured here in 2005 with Michelle http://www.mariapinto.com/dev/press/obama2.html
Pearshape?! I would say hourglass.
Wake up. Michelle does not have enough fashion sense to minimize her figure faults, which are huge.
She picks skin tight dresses, which accent her linebacker size rear, hips and thighs, which are severely out of proportion with her upper body, and her hairstyle does nothing to soften her lantern jawed, masculine, boss of the house face.
And then she starts talking (over Barack, of course), and you are taken aback by her testosterone-fueled, chip on her shoulder, mediocre intellectual, affirmative action advanced, glib but content weak vocal presentation.
Get ready for 4 years of bad posture, bad fashion and barely concealed race hating--Michelle is coming to town.
