VIDEO: Josh Brolin tested his George Bush Texas twang with prank calls
Josh Brolin talks to The Dish Rag about why he initially turned down the role of George W. Bush in Oliver Stone's film about the life and times of the current president, "W."
"I just wanted to know what his [Oliver's] agenda was,, and I found out he had no agenda."
And yes, Josh did test out his Bush accent by calling people who actually live in Texas. He says he just likes to mix it up and have fun. Anyone in Texas get a strange call from President Bush in the last few months?
Elizabeth Banks, who plays First Lady Laura Bush, admits, "I was really scared. It's a big responsibility playing someone who's real and who could potentially see the movie."
Ellen Burstyn found it helpful to read up on Barbara Bush, W's mother and wife of former President George H.W. Bush. "I don't usually have the opportunity to read six books on my character."
Oliver Stone explains why he wanted to make this movie about a sitting president.
"It's one of the great stories of all time. This is a guy who was a a frat boy, always in trouble, a failure in his father's eyes until the age of 40. Through the act of willpower, he turned it into a successful life. The irony, of course, is the third act, where after being a success, governor of Texas, he became president, and this is where people divide..."
The movie opens wide on Friday. Will you go see it? Or do you want to forget George W. Bush?

I'd rather forget Oliver Stone and his politicised films. If I'm going to pay 12 hard earned dollars to be entertained I want to be entertained, NOT told why I should hate someone Oliver and his producer buddies don't like because they don't agree with his politics. I cast my VOTE this year in NOT wasting my time with another Hollywood Left Election Year Production.
S Jackson This movie is pro Bush....not anti..
I think Stone enjoys his films more than the viewing public does. Like his Colleague, Michael Moore, his films are mindless entertainment for the Liberals in La La Land, but of no interest to the normal intellect. Don't waste your money!
I might have known that another jab at the president was more than likely. Bush is not even running for a third term :o). Is this film supposed to remind the extreme left that they hate what america and freedom stands for? This is just another lastditch effort by the left to remind us all that we are evil people and need to be beat into submission by the rest of the world. I did not know that stone was a colleague of Moore, but it certainly fits.
Ya' know, I get really tired of people like Gary or Richard (above) claiming that liberals have less intellect or less patriotic than these fascists who call themselves conservatives.
I am a liberal; and I more educated and more intelligent than both of those guys combined. In addition, I am much more pro-American than either of them.
Let me take a moment to mention what IS un-American.
Torture is un-American.
Suspending habeas corpus is un-American.
The president illegally wiretapping American citizens is un-American.
The president lying to the American public, and manipulating the country into an illegal and unjustified (by any measure) war is un-American.
Exposing the identities of covert CIA agents (i.e., Valerie Plame) is un-American.
The entire Patriot Act is un-American.
The very last thing I need is for a conservative to talk to me about loving FREEDOM -- because over the last eight years Republicans have done everything possible to take our freedoms away.
A woman told me the other day that Hitler was running for president is a Republican, her dad would vote for him.
And even though Obama will easily win this election, what is most disconcerting is that 40-some percent of Americans WILL STILL be successfully manipulated into voting for people (Republicans) who represent rich people and corporations, and couldn't care less about them at all.
I wish they knew how embarrassing they are.
I spend a lot of time in Europe, and I'm continually asked "how can that many Americans be so stupid?" And I always answer, "hell if I know."

I'm a Republican and I did not expect Jr. to f' up this country to the point where we are today. My wife voted for Al and I should of listened... I guess this 'ant my fathers Republican party anymore! Insanity is for me to do the same thing and expecting something different, not this time my friend.
