Anne Hathaway's ex Raffaello Follieri gets 4 1/2 years
Anne Hathaway's Italian ex-boyfriend Raffaello Follieri has been sentenced to 4 1/2 years in
prison.
But don't feel too sorry for him. He could have gotten the max of 265 years.
He pleaded guilty to 14 counts of wire fraud, conspiracy and money laundering and agreed not to appeal any sentence less than 63 months. (His is 54 months.)
He also agreed to forfeit money made illegally, amounting to $2.44 million and some valuable jewelry.
The 30-year-old businessman was arrested in June, two weeks after Anne Hathaway broke off their four-year romance. He was also accused of posing as the Vatican's rep in America, and duping investors into believing the church would sell him property at a discount.
His lawyer wrote a letter to the court claiming that the poor young man from a nice Italian family had gotten "intoxicated" by fame since he fell in Hathaway's A-list circles. So he swindled the money to try to keep up the pair's lavish lifestyle.
Yeah, that's good. Blame the squeaky-clean, wholesome actress whose image is more Mary Poppins than Zsa Zsa Gabor.
Nice try, Raffie!

i do not know Raffaello Follieri in person. i come from the same City and the same Society circles of a small Italian town and i immediately identified his false ambitions back in 2006 when i first read about him and when most of my / his friends were so enthusiastic about this young smart enterpreneur making it big in the US.
The megalomania and delusional conduct shown by Follieri was a de ja vu..
However i truly believe that a financial settlement with intense psycho therapy would have served Justice better than the actual sentence he received.
as banal and obvious analogy as it may sound, i would really like to see mr.Richard Fuld and his Wall Street fellows going to jail for selling toilet paper to the Global investors and paying back the money they received in bonuses and compensations in the last 10 years.
finally i am also convinced that sharing a relationship with a person gives the opportunity to deeply know one another and getting a chance to evaluate the morality and the legitimacy of ones status, the way they conduct their business and where the good life they offer comes from.
From what has been publicized Ms.Hathaway seemed to have failed in explaining her naivete .
Didn't she ever feel embarrassed by getting flown in a private jet or pampered into an extravagantly luxury yacht with money being made in a disputable fashion? so many years in a relationship:" the man of her life" and still unable to take off his mask?
Why is it outrageous to assume that she is indirectly and maybe shamefully responsible for having indulged in a life questionably earned no questions asked?!
the more i think about this the more i recall the mith of Amor and Psyche...with a reverse Contemporary twist.
i suggest Ms.Hathaway to watch Giacomo Campiotti's movie:"Time to Love".
best regards,
Roberto Berardi
Poor guy. Like Lawrence from Office Space said, "watch the corn hole."
Bravo, well said. I saw Hathaway on Letterman and when he asked her if she had been warned she would not answer the question and deflected it with something boring that was supposed to be funny. One thing is for sure, she is an excellent actress, she has all fooled that she was unaware. I don't believe it for a second. If she was unaware, she herself needs psychiatric help and/or is clearly a crazed lunatic like Follieri. Karma dear Annie, Karma, quick to rise, quicker to fall. Should be quite a steep smack to the ground any day now for Ms. Hathaway.
Was trying to be another Eugenio Buontempo, but failed. The entire Buontempo family are crooks.
Raffaello Follieri was small potatoes compared to Eugenio.
What, does it surprise people that rich people are corrupt and should not have the power they unfortunately do?
Women always pick stupid deals!
They can't analyze a person or a business deal...
I see it all the time, only 1% do a proper job of background checks & money management.
