Meghan McCain supports Sarah Palin's pregnant daughter Bristol
John McCain's daughter wrote on her blog this week, recalling when her father was asked about a hypothetical abortion for her.
"When I was 14 years old, a reporter questioned my father about me having a hypothetical abortion, had I been pregnant at 14."
She writes that this reporter's question single-handedly changed her life. This story comes up in almost every profile written about her and almost every interview. "It's a rough go being the son or daughter of a politician."
She adds, "I have not known Bristol Palin very long, but there is a certain kinship I feel to her as I do other political daughters such as Chelsea Clinton, Jenna and Barbara Bush and Mary Cheney. You can't fully understand it unless you have lived it. So I just wanted to let it be known that I support Bristol and the entire Palin family."
In 2000, John McCain told the reporter that it would be a "family decision."
"The final decision would be made by Meghan with our advice and counsel," he said, referring to his wife Cindy McCain and himself. "I would discuss this issue with Cindy and Meghan, and this would be a private decision that we would share within our family and not with anyone else. Obviously I would encourage her to bring, to know that baby would be brought up in a warm and loving family, but the final decision would be made by Meghan with our advice and counsel."
