NFL Jaguars' Richard Collier shot, in critical condition in Jacksonsville

RichardcollierjaguarsJacksonville Jaguars offensive tackle Richard Collier was  shot early Tuesday morning in Jacksonville, Florida.

What on earth is going on? He's the third NFL player to be shot in the past 18 months.

Washington Redskins player Sean Taylor was killed during a burglary of his home in Miami in November last year.

Broncos player Darrent Williams was killed when he was shot in a rented limo after a New Year's Eve part at a Denver nightclub at the  beginning of 2007.

Collier, 26, who stands 6-7 and weighs 345 pounds, was shot multiple times and is now said to be in critical condition at Shands Jacksonville Medical Center.

The shooting took place at approximately 2:45 a.m. in a middle class neighborhood west of downtown Jacksonville.

Collier and a pal, former Jaguars player Kenneth Pettway, were in a car outside an apartment building, waiting for a woman (or women) to meet them, when gunfire broke out.

Sheriffs are investigating.

Sounds like a setup

Definitley A set up, so sad...What is going on?

I don't follow football. If you didn't have a big headline I wouldn't know who this guy was or care. However, he's got three things going against him: Black, male, and in the football league. Just two of those things insures that your life is cut short, esp. if you're in the wrong neighborhood with the wrong people saying/doing the wrong things.

And I am a black female.

This is horrible. It smells like smoke, and where there is smoke there is usually fire. It sounds like a set up. This kind of violence has to stop however I can only see it getting worse if we don't do something to bring this economy out of recession. That is why the election is important. We are voting for change not for personal reasons for change or direction new thoughts and idealogies.

This without a doubt sounds like a set up. Hopefully his teamate will be able to lead the authorities to the woman/women they were going to see. I'm sure they were in on it.

most def a setup. where was the females when the gunfire started. how convient. hopefully teammate can help with some leads. but this is very sad. 8 is enough...

I once met this guy. He's pretty cool. I hate that he was shot possibly over some a**. I hear he's married too. When will one plate be enough? Instead most have to be greedy and grab two plates. Nevertheless, the person had no right to shoot him. I'm like the others, it sounds like his friends and the girl set him up.

It is horrible but this will happen more and more as the NFL continues to recruit individuals of questionable character just because they 300+ pounds, run fast, etc. When the NFL recruits these uneducated street thugs, does it really think they will leave all that behind once they sign their name on the contract?

I'd like to see an NFL do a little character research on potential players before signing them. The NFL does not need dirt-bags in the sport, even if they are good athletes.

My guess is that Richard was driving a nice car. He's an NFL player, it was probably a very nice car. Someone wanted to GTA until they saw Goliath in the drivers seat. So they freaked and unloaded a clip on the car. Then they were gone.

Another thing. All these people accusing Richard Collier of anything is ludicrous. If you got shot in the head tonight, would I blame you? No. Plainly and Simply. Get of your ******* high horse.
