Helen Mirren talks about being date-raped, loving cocaine

HelenmirrenHelen Mirren's recent comments about being date-raped have stirred up quite a controversy.

In an interview in the October issue of British GQ, the Oscar-winning actress admitted to being date-raped "a couple of times" when she was younger, but said that the act was not brutal or violent, but was "rather being locked in a room and made to have sex against my will."

But here's where it gets dicey: She never reported the incidents to the police.

"You couldn't do that in those days," she explained in GQ. "If a woman voluntarily ends up in a man's bedroom with her clothes off? It's such a tricky area, isn't it? Especially if there is no violence. I think she has the right to say no at the last second. But I don't think she can have that man in court under those circumstances."

Women's rights advocates clearly feel differently about her point of view.

What do you think? Has any woman reading this ever said no to no avail but then felt that they couldn't go to the police because of the reasons Mirren suggests?

In the interview, Helen Mirren also spoke of her past cocaine use.

"I loved coke. I never did a lot, just a little bit at parties," she told GQ. But what ended it for her was the capture of Klaus Barbie, the Butcher of Lyon, in the early 1980s.

Barbie had been found hiding in South America and living off the proceeds of his days as a cocaine baron.

"And I read that in the paper, and all the cards fell into place, and I saw how my little sniff of cocaine at a party had an absolute direct route to this horrible man."

If nothing else, you gotta give Helen points for honesty.

same happened to me,,, but i got pregnant with no recourse to tell the father as he never told me his real name. i don't regret my daughter but i nunderstand. it was the 70's . No one believed girls back then?

Dear Helen

Thank God you have spoken out and put your name out there to this crime. As a world famous actress & celebrity your voice will be heard quicker than the women who are being date raped and they are looking for a miracle as convictions in these cases are usually zero especially if they have been druged as the evidence is gone and it is too late. This horrific traumatic & terrible crime against women needs to be highlighted more for the children growing up now. It is happening on a regurlar basis in Ireland it is also very much Drug Date Rape that is happening here. I know of so many girls this has happened to and the damage is on going one girl in particular who's whole life has been distroyed, she can't go to work and she has been in therapy for the past 7 years.

Date rape is on the increase and needs to be stopped.

Thank you Helen

Ellen

She's absolutely right -- there is nothing the police could do. Still isn't. He-said, she-said with no physical evidence will not result in a conviction, no matter how you present it.

I don't condone date rape, but in the minds of the man hating feminists, even if a guy looks at a woman in an innocent manner, he is guilty of date rape. I hope Old Helen hasn't been date raped recently.
