John Edwards admits secret affair with Rielle Hunter. Finally.

Johnedwards_elizabethedwards

The National Enquirer tabloid is looking pretty darn legit right about now.

The story of the John Edwards and Rielle Hunter affair has pretty much been theirs and theirs alone since the tab first reported it last October. Recently, they reported that the former senator had been in the Beverly HIlton Hotel with Hunter and that he hid in the men's room of the hotel from their reporters.

Now ABC is reporting that Edwards has admitted the affair with the filmmaker, 42, and that he lied about it during the last election.

But he denies that he is the father of Hunter's daughter, Frances Quinn Hunter, born in February.

Really? So it's just coincidental timing? Click here to see photos of Edwards with the little girl.

What will this revelation to do the Democratic Party? To Edwards' political future? To the upcoming presidential election? To Edwards' wife, Elizabeth Edwards, who is fighting breast cancer? And to the National Enquirer's readership? I predict a boost on the latter.

Here's the real kicker: Edwards has said that his affair with Hunter began and ended while his wife's cancer was in remission.

Oh, well, that makes it okay then.

But here's my favorite part: When the Enquirer first raised the issue in October, Edwards told reporters the story was "false" and "ridiculous."

Seems to me the only thing "false" and "ridiculous" is Edwards.

Sound off, folks! We can finally talk about John Edwards and his now admitted rumored extra-marital affair behind his dying wife's back.

You can read more about this issue from the really smart and level-headed folks at Top of the Ticket.

What's with this ongoing Democratic Party extramarital malaise? Is Edwards trying to emulate Bill Clinton? Is he too dumb to realize that having an affair, especially when your wife is down and out, is not very politically astute, even for a Democratic politician?

But screw that! The real issue is why did the LA Times and other mainstream media ignored this story? And what impact will it have on the Obama campaign? And why we elect jerks like this instead of guys who just jerk off?

Paris Hilton became a national hero earlier this week. Now it's The National Enquirer. Yikes!!!

Los Angeles Times: Where were you when the Enquirer was kicking butt, trying to get this story ? Didn't you send out a missive to bloggers at your paper saying they couldn't write about it ? Shame on your paper for not reporting on this. The only other paper with guts was the Raleigh News Observer, who did do stories.

Lets see how long it takes to blame the woman

you must know everything he says is lie. I can only hope the nation can see him for what he is and bury him once and for all. He lied to juries to destroy the lives of good doctors and line his pockets. He is slime, always been slime, most clear thinkers always knew such, and now everyone knows. Lets hope he goes away, takes care his wife and never show up again. BUT is up to the press (MSM) to make sure that happens.

If you're going to ask if his political career is over, you have to look at the way John McCain ditched his first wife. When he was 42 he left his first wife Carol after she had been disfigured in a car accident for Cindy, 17 years his junior. So please tell me, how is John McCain's affair different than John Edwards'?

Please stay out of public figures personal lives. I don't want do hear about it from a legitimate news source unless a crime has been committed.

The LA Times and other MSM are just as 'false' and 'ridiculous' as Edwards, as shown by how you've refused to acknowledge or investigate the issue. Instead you waited until Edwards' admitted it. Somehow, I doubt you would have mentioned it if Edwards' himself hadn't admitted it today.

You should point the accusatory finger at yourself, and you should have pointed it at Edwards at the end of last year.

I'm not saying it isn't a big deal, but it is hypocritical to allow Bill "I did not have sex, with that woman, Miss Lewinsky" Clinton to speak, and use this a a reason to ban Edwards.

I have a bigger question: where is the LA Times when it comes to investigating city government? I never read about the mayor or the councilmembers unless they are spending public money for travel, and mostly not even then. There really is no longer a daily newspaper anymore. Just a collection of bloggers and left wing ranters. Where is the Herald Examiner when you need them?

I never believed the whole "liberal bias" thing about the media until this whole debacle. What happened to "trust but verify?" No one tried to verify anything, yet had the National Enquirer uncovered Mitt Romney in a hotel with his love child, I bet papers would have tripped over themselves rushing to investigate. This is why no one watches network news anymore. The only trusted source is to read blogs on the left and right, then make uo your own mind somwhere in the middle.

OK... I am confused. I really don't know what to think, or feel, about Elizabeth Edwards. In her statement on Daily Kos, she essentially puts most the blame on tabloids, making money. She says this from her six million dollar, 28,000 sq. foot home. In her statement, she sneaks in a backhand to other politicians who have done the same thing as husband John. And she says she knew of since 2006 about the affair. Of course, she doesn't address the recent Beverly Hills debacle. What was that about?

So, yes. She has cancer. And yes, many of us either have cancer or have lost loved ones to cancer. Myself included. What I don't understand is why she, too, was happy to stand by her husband, making all manner of statements about morality and family values over the past two years... and all the time knowing her own family didn't live up to the statements. I'm sorry... this woman was manipulating along with her husband. People are human, people make mistakes, people have affairs. But this was a national game, and the Edwards presented themselves as paragons of family values. I'm disgusted with the entire cast of characters.
