Why Joel Madden, Nicole Richie (and Brad, Angie) won't marry!
Ask not for whom the wedding bells toll. They're definitely not ringing for Joel Madden and Nicole Richie.
That's what the Good Charlotte rocker, father of Richie's 6-month-old daughter, Harlow, revealed last week.
"We don't have any plans for that right now," Madden told People. "We're just happy, and we're being a family, and that's where we're at right now. But marriage means something different to everyone."
With that statement, they're now officially on the Unwedded Bliss List -- referring to the Hollywood stars (Brad and Angelina being the most blatant example) who are shunning traditional marriage.
In case you haven't noticed (and really, why would you), celebrities are increasingly opting to live together and raise children without the religious ceremony, financial entanglements and tax benefits of a legal union.
Ironically, this trend is taking off at a time when, in California, gays, lesbians and transexuals are gleefully trotting down the aisle after the state Supreme Court lifted a ban (even if only temporarily with a November ballot vote) on same sex marriage.

Then weigh in on this controversial "I do/I don't think so" social trend!
This includes, naturally, unmarried couple Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, who are hunkered down with their four kids in France, prepping for the birth of their twin daughters. Or, depending on which Internet gossip theory you believe, including this NEW ONE, they could be hiding the prematurely born twins until they're ready for their multimillion dollar baby pix.
Other recent Unwed Parents include Halle Berry and her model baby daddy Gabriel Aubry, Naomi Watts and Liev Schreiber, Britney Spear's little sister Jamie Lynn Spears, 17, and her boyfriend Casey Aldridge, who got engaged shortly before the birth to their daughter, Maddie Briann. There's also the late Heath Ledger and Michelle Williams, who had been raising their daughter, Matilda Rose, when Ledger sadly died of a reported accidental overdose of prescription drugs earlier this year.
Surfer dude Matthew McConaughey and his girlfriend Camila Alves are expecting a child together but have no wedding plans. Even former porn actress Jenna Jameson recently announced: "I think I'm gonna stay unmarried and just go for the babies. I'm following in Angelina's footsteps."
Jessica Alba and Cash Warren are an exception to this new "I don't" rule. The couple actually got married at the Beverly Hills City Hall a few weeks BEFORE they had their daughter, Honor. So did Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz, who were engaged and married before announcing that they're expecting a baby. Well, it's a start.
What do you think about the growing Celebrity Marriage Ban? Should Hollywood stars raise children without being legally married? Given the supremely short life spans of most celebrity unions, perhaps it's not such a bad idea.
Your two cents, please.
