Surfers protect their surf turf (and Matthew McConaughey) from paps!
A bunch of Matthew McConaughey's surfing buds went ape on some paparazzi who were filming the star trying to hang 10 this weekend ... on a public beach.
According to TMZ, whose cameras captured some of the confrontation, about 12 paps were on the beach in Malibu trying to get gnarly shots of Matty hitting the surf, when an all-out smackdown was laid on the paps by turf protective surfers.
One pap was hit the face and suffered a broken nose, while another was thrown into some rocks and had his camera smashed. Matthew McConaughey was not involved in the ruckus. Police reports are being filed by the paps involved.
Watch the scary video here. What do you think? Did the beach boys have the right to make the paps get off the beach? Were the paps just doing their job?
Will the protective surfers be models in Matthew McConaughey's new surfwear line?
I have a theory they were extras in "Surfer Dude," his new flick, which is opening in September, sez his website.
Why else be so irrate about harmless photos of Mattie surfing?
Anyway, the bigger question is why is Mattie even hanging out and partying with his surf buddies while his pregnant girlfriend is at home?
Just asking....
Photo: No, this isn't Matthew McConaughey on the beach at Malibu. It's Matthew McConaughey on the beach in Miami in 2006. We just wanted to run a shot of him without his shirt on. Call us shallow. ...

I have lived in Malibu my whole life. The paps have gotten completely out of control. They cross so many lines and invade not only the celebrities privacy but also ours!!!! By the way, this happened at a private beach, where you need a key to get into. This is the only place we have to avoid the beach crowds and enjoy what little bit of Malibu we have left. There is nothing public about where these "so called working photographers were." I think my fellow surfer FRIENDS were in the right by asking them to leave and then taking action to get them off of our turf!!!!!
Papparrazi needs to respect boundaries with celebrities. Being famous is one thing, but being swarmed whenever you go out. No wonder the celebs buy big mansions, its their only seclude away from The pap.
To Papparrazi, remember what happened to Princess Diana........
Leave space for people and respect their boundaries. If you want a photo kindly ask, don't just take. I can't believe they put a price on photos these days too... but if I were a celeb, I would ask for the highest price...... for harrassing and not respecting boundaries.
hahahahahha thats tight.
All beaches in California are public and what the surfers did was wrong. But it was hilarious and long overdue! =D
I wouldn't even say that they were defending MMc. They were just sick and tired of the paps. Surfers, especially the younger ones, are notoriously territorial, and throw downs over turf are a long tradition.
No one likes the paps. They're more hated than meter maids and telemarketers. They have no concept of limiting their behavior out of respect to members of the public. They'd just as soon push you off a curb into traffic if they think you're in the way of getting the shot.
I don't think this is the last incident, nor will it be the worst. With technologies like twitter, celebs will be able to get mobs of rabid fans on the scene, and the job of paparazzi is going to become more dangerous than that of chopper pilot in wartime.
We are long over due for some laws restricting the paps. Until those laws come I welcome more beat downs like this. I hope this happens a lot more. There is nothing more precious than freedom. Paps are limiting freedom of celebs and that's just got to change. I sometimes wonder if less celebs would crack like they do these days if they had less people spying on their every mistake. Displaying it for all the world to make fun of them.
The paps pulled a knife on the surfers then edited it out to make themselves look like the victims.
If thats the way they want to play...
The Surfers need to sue E! and TMZ.
Men have been leaving pregnant wives (who have quite comfortable and easily been able to take care of themselves) at these early stages of pregnancy for eaons. If the LA Times has to reprint and repost information from gossip web sites, fine. But can it at least do so without snarky and (worse) stupid comments from some "journalist" who appears to have barely passed freshman composition at the high school level?
I think the bigger issue than the photographers is the surfers' territorial nature. Surfers are bullies who always chase non-surfers off. I think the surfers caught on tape should be arrested and charged with assault.
Is that hypocrite sporting a LiveStrong cancer bracelet?
He promotes beef - a major contributor to myriads of health problems, including several forms of cancer - then he walks around with a cancer awareness bracelet?
WTF?
