Will 'Australia' boost Nicole Kidman's career or kill it?
Nicole Kidman's film career desperately needs a hit.
Why do I have a feeling that "Australia," directed by Baz ("Moulin Rouge") Luhrmann, starring Kidman and Hugh Jackman -- even though it may already be on some Oscar 2009 short lists -- is not gonna be that hit.
Is it just me, or does the beginning scene, in which Nic asks a little child if he wants to hear a story, feel like something edited out of "The Golden Compass"?
What a hokey way to start a serious WWII-era romantic adventure epic. If the film actually opens like this, I predict people will run for the exits, thinking they've mistakenly walked into a children's fairy tale film.

I have a question? Why so much hate for Nicole Kidman?
She's a good person...
Geez, give the movie a chance! This is just a "teaser" trailer, it's possible that the final cut of the film won't even include Nicole's character telling the child a story. But if it does, so be it because what I saw in the teaser makes me really, really, really anxious to see the movie. (I've watched the trailer at least a dozen times already.) I'm so ready for an epic movie filled with action and a romantic love story. And Hugh Jackman. Yeah, Hugh Jackman, on a horse. Hugh Jackman in a white dinner jacket. Oh, yeah....
Nicole is a classy and superb actress and Hugh Jackman is an excellent actor.
The preview you just showed wants me to buy tickets as soon as they are available in México
Actually, the introduction to the trailer was especially made for the trailer and will NOT be in the movie, It was just an intro to get the trailer going.
This made me laugh out loud a couple of times, scenery looked great but studio shot of NK and the child and her faux Mary Poppins delivery is too funny for words.
Oh dear.
Nicole's Career Needs A Lift?Does it need a boost?
With all due respect and without sounding like a one-man band but how can you say that an OSCAR,BAFTA and Golden Globe Winning actress who commands a surplus of $15million a movie need a career lift-Nicole has peaked at her career and is now in her acting prime.Just because she's not another factory made Britney Spears or Lindsey Lohan who frankly in comparison should not even be considered actresses doesn't mean she has lost it What a totally shocking article for a about a woman who has rightly stated by M she's a good person-not pictured in the tabloids everyday boozing, doing drugs, exposing herself. A Truly fine actress and list as one of the 100 best of this generation - all due respect but what a totally unfounded article with clearly no research.
Firstly, I think Lee is on the right track.
Elizabeth, you have obviously not watched the trailer closely as the child is a girl. The significance is that the child is an Australian Aborigine and story telling is a major part of their culture and is important to their oral history. The Australian Aboriginal culture is a truly spiritual one and I think if you watch the trailer again you may understand that the story this film is to tell is much deeper than the celluloid it is made on.
this article is insulting to baz luhrmann who is the greatest filmmaker of all time. i cant wait to see it and i could truthfully say that if i had a choice between baz and steven speilberg, i'd choose baz luhrmann without even having to think twice. quit hating.
What a downer you are-Nic telling the story is only for the trailer-I think it is so exciting I cant wait for this movie-dont give it the curse before you see it!!!
AlexENG:
It's not a girl; the child is a boy named Brandon.
I agree...why the hate for Nicole?
This blurb is poorly researched....
I guess the 300million+ the Golden Compass did worldwide makes it a flop, eh? Or the critical acclaim Margo at the Wedding received isn't true?
