"drug abuse" by Mr. Ledger was the official cause of his accidental death. No doctor prescribed that horrific drug combination as a course of treatment. Please don't be dismissive about the cause of this tragedy.
How much pain can a big, handsome Australian celebrity living in a plush Soho loft with the choice of the most plum roles in Hollywood feel? Not to mention the beautiful baby daughter and fooling around in drug dens while she sleeps upstairs. I mean, it's horrible that this kid is dead, but what possibly could have been his problem? Nobody needs that many pain killers and sleeping pills unless. Elvis OD'd on prescription meds too, and we all know he was a complete mess. What the heck was Heath's problem?
Seriously, that's a lot of drugs. That isn't medicating that's abusing. My wife just had a baby followed by major comlications resulting in major pain, anxiety and nearly death and wasn't on that many drugs. Let's call a spade a spade for once. It is sad that he is dead but lets not play down the reality of the situation. These are hardcore drugs. They just happen to be available by "perscription" only. I'm sure if a small amount of marijuana was found, however, people would be calling him a drug addict. Sad all around..
Heath just won best supporting actor for his role in "Dark Knight", 2009. Posthumously; his family accepted the award.
For all the cretinous posts about the lad, let this stand. I left work with an earache last week. I could have, would have, and did take whatever I could find to make that go away. Even if it would have killed me. I survived the pain through experience, and some do not. Rest In Peace, friend.
It's interesting to see the opinons of other's that compare their own lives to Heath's. You had no clue as to what was going on or why this tragedy happened. I'm glad not to be among those who cast the first stone.
I am very happy to see him win the very much deserved award tonight. I know his family is proud.
I know this is an old article, but so many times the press focuses on this little ME's blurb, but did not give much attention to the full report.
This tragedy was not "abuse" in the way people are interpreting it. People are seizing on the word "abuse" to think that Heath was being irresponsible and overusing his meds. He was not. The term abuse here simply means use incorrectly, because they should not have been prescribed together.
But Heath was following doctor's orders. Heath was taking his prescriptions exactly as prescribed. A direct quote from the medical examiner's report states that Ledger had "the prescribed doses or LESS of each medication in his system". He did not pop more of them than he was supposed to. He took them the way they were indicated. As most of us do.
And he had legitimate reasons for being on these prescriptions and several medical conditions were being addressed, including: insomnia that had lasted over 10 months, a recurring back injury, and pneumonia. But again, it's important to stress that according to the medical report, he was only taking the proper doses or less of his meds. Not overusing them, not taking too many, the "properly prescribed doses".
Heath was not an addict. He had not even drunk alcohol in over 17 months. He was being careful, and thought as long as he took them they way they were supposed to be taken, it never occurred to him that anything bad would happen.
The fact that they never should have been prescribed together is the tragedy. For those of us whom Heath touched, whether closely or simply in small gestures, this kind, compassionate and gentle man will always be missed. Even years down the line.
wow seriously. its tragic that he died yes and i was a great fan but you people need to chill. whether he commited suicide or if it indeed was accidental will remain a mystery. and im sure playing the role of an insane murder didnt help his depression much. RIP.
