It's official: Katie is her own woman!

Tom Cruise's insipidly smiling red carpet arm-piece? Not anymore.

Katie Holmes, a surprise presenter of Best Comedy to "Juno" at the Broadcast Critics Choice Awards tonight, is done being dragged down red carpets by her superstar husband.

The well-spoken brunette was flying solo tonight and was hands-down the most fashonably dressed woman of the evening, clad in a knock-out, one-shouldered sparkly Grecian-style gown from the Spring 08 collection of Lanvin's Alber Elbaz.

Katie didn't walk the red carpet and thus didn't have to answer all the lame strike/cancelled Globes questions well-fielded by "Hairspray" stars  Amanda Bynes, Brittany Snow, Nikki Blonsky, Allison Janney, along with other female presenters and nominees Kyra Sedgwick, Marion Cotillard and Ellen Page.

This is far from Katie's last appearance this week. The premiere of of her new comedy, "Mad Money," with Queen Latifah (who was also in the house, wearing a sleek white pantsuit) takes place Wednesday night. And Katie will also appear at Glamour Magazine's low-key V-Day luncheon on Thursday at Craft in Century City, to support feminist/activist Eve Ensler's internatonal anti-violence towards women's charity.

Color us impressed!
