Did Sarah make Paris cry?
Talk about going out - or going in - with a bang.
Paris Hilton turned herself into the authorities after leaving the MTV Movie Awards last night where host Sarah Silverman took some shots at the heiress about her impending incarceration. TMZ got the video of her and her mom arriving at the Men's Central Jail in downtown LA to turn herself to the LA County Sheriff. Click here to watch.
Paris also made this statement: "I am ready to face the consequences of violating probation. During the past few weeks, I have had a lot of time to think and have come to realize I made some mistakes. This is an important point in my life and I need to take responsibility for my actions. In the future, I plan on taking more of an active role in the decisions I make. I want to thank my family, friends and fans for their continued support. Although I am scared, I am ready to begin my jail sentence."
Did Silverman's opening monologue jabs about her chipping her teeth on the cell's bars make Paris leave the show early and turn herself in? Observers say it was the first time they'd ever seen her flustered and that she "lost her trademark smirk." Dane Cook joked midway through the show that Paris was so upset about the crack that she left and "checked into jail early." But ironically, it was kinda true! Did Sarah go too far? Click here, watch Paris's face - and the audience's reaction - and decide.
Over the weekend, Paris seemed pretty chipper and managed to hit an MTV pre-party and even go shopping at the Grove with Derrick from the third season of "Temptation Island." To see a TMZ video of her last shopping splurge, click here.
Call me jaded and cynical, but I kinda think that Paris - and her mom - had the whole turn-yourself-in-early routine planned out. It had been prearranged for her to turn herself in downtown instead of the actual Lynwood facility due to all the paparazzi camped out there. Paris's camp had to know that Silverman was gonna take a topical tasteless stab and probably guessed that it might win her some sympathy. And it did! Don't you feel sorry for her now? The audience clearly did. Frankly, I did too. Kinda. But I felt much worse for Cameron Diaz who was wearing a really short black dress that looked way too much like the really short black dress worn by Jessica Biel, Justin Timberlake's new squeeze. Like they weren't being compared enough. Ouch.
PS: Okay, now I'm really getting suspicious. Seems Paris couldn't have been all that upset about Silverman's crack. According to People, she headed to the tented Green Room after she left her seat in the show at the Universal Studios Gibson Amphitheatre. Inside she was smiling and talking to a friend and chowed down for five whole minutes on mini egg salad sandwiches, caprese salad on toast and carrots. She hung out for about ten minutes.
