Lost Beatles pix prove Paul wore glasses
Hey, wasn't John Lennon the "smart'" Beatle with glasses? Never-before-seen photos of the Beatles prove that Paul McCartney also wore glasses, something millions of his avid fans never knew.
Seems McCartney, the "cute Beatle," was rarely photographed wearing his glasses because he felt they didn't fit with his image. But in a just-released series of rare photos taken of the Fab Four in the Abbey Road studios recording "With a Little Help From My Friends," McCartney can be seen (above) wearing black horn rims. And he looks a bit like Elvis Costello or Damien Hirst.
The shots were taken by acclaimed photographer Frank Herrmann on March 30, 1967, exactly 40 years ago. Later that day, the Liverpool lads posed for the cover of the legendary "Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" album.
According to an article in The Mail on Sunday's Live Night and Day magazine, cameramen were rarely given entry to recording sessions. Some of the negatives have been lost, but thanks to digital technology, prints have been made from contact sheets Herrmann had stored in a box for 40 years.
A private viewing of the photos and contact sheets will be held on June 1, 2007, at the Saint Giles Street Gallery in Norwich, England. The gallery is owned by David Koppel, who was in West Hollywood this week checking out the local galleries and venue for future exhibitions. To see more never-before-seen candid Beatles photos-- including more of Paul in glasses -- all available in limited editions, check out the gallery's website.
Some of Herrmann's unseen photos will be included in a new book that celebrates the 40th anniversary of the Beatles' groundbreaking album titled "Summer of Love: The Making of Sergeant Pepper," written by George Martin (with William Pearson), published by Genesis Publications. And, omigod, they were all smoking too!!!
I have been a Beatles fan for more than forty years...this dude Herrman has unearthed the most interesting fact about the band in the last decade. Its the last great piece of the jigsaw. Now we know Paul Mccartney actually did wear glasses ,like Lennon,we can actually lay to rest the rumours of conflict between the two great friends and songwriters. The picture is awesome and that exhibition in June is already on my "must attend" list for this summer.Does anyone know this dude Koppel that can get me in.....hey man....where the hell is Nowrich?
Lost Beatles pix prove Paul wore glasses......
This is nothing new!
Over the years there have been published more pictures of Paul wearing glasses.
Take a look at this:

They are amazing and these photos are fabo! They also were so adorable they could have worn paper bags and it would have been hip!
News? If you look at the cover of Mark Lewisohn's "The Beatles Rcording Sessions", (1988) there is a picture of Paul McCartney on the cover wearing glasses. There's also a few Paul wearing glasses pictures inside the book.
I have seen photos of Paul wearing glasses. Many times. I thought that maybe they were John's glassses and they were kidding... but maybe he needs them...
think that i've seen photos of all the beatles wearing glasses
at one time or another. no big. paul wrote music the traditional
way, on a chart, on occasion, as he still may - and that task
would encourage even a 20/20 viewer to up the clarity, particularly
on long, beatlesque recording sessions with a music reading producer
like george martin on the boards.
but....and this is truly weird...look again at the fellow wearing glasses in
the left rear of the photo - who we are told is paul. it's not, sorry. look at
his physique, his carriage - and in particular, his neck. paul is an irishman of some displacement, and even at his thinnest - a la the abbey road photos, or the shots taken by the late linda for his solo debut - "mccartney" - he displays proud posture and a pair of shoulders suitable
for carrying freight common to the irish, then and now, elvis costello excepted.
it's not paul - uh uh -and if you tilt the perspective a little with your lately googled brain, and add in a bit of depth perception, you'll see that even
ringo looms huge over this bespectaced, mustachioed spectre....i mean spector, that is, like in phil? what's he doing there? well, sgt pepper was such a departure for the fabs, yet familiar to california music fans - and it wasn't long after that he was producing john and yoko.
ok, a bit much, i agree. but that don't change what's strange - it's not paul!
They are John's glasses. Paul wore them during the shoot for a lark.
Okay I'm not sure about this.First of all like another commentor said, these pictures of Paul with glases have been seen before.Dezo Hoffman took pics of them in glasses and these are very famous pics taken in 1963.At the time Paul told Dezo that he thought the pics were silly saying,"But I don't wear glasses,Dezo."He's also said in his bio 'Many Years From Now', that his eyesight was starting to go and sometimes he has to wear Linda's glasses to see the fine print on things like shampoo bottles. That was in the mid 90's.It seems to me that these lost photos are just Paul playing around and wearing glasses for fun.I don't think he needed glasses in his 20's but then again who knows! The Beatles are a mysterious entity.Every time you think you know everything about them something new is discovered.
To everyone who wrote in about having seen photos of Paul in glasses, please click on the "article in the Mail on Sunday's Live Night and Day Link and read their story. Pretty sure it will answer some of your concerns and questions. Oh, and Phil Spector wasn't present at the recording. Thank god, or someone might have gotten shot! If you want to see more photos and study them closely, click on the "check out the gallery" link. it takes you to about three dozen photos you can peruse.
I personally recall seeing at least one photo of Paul in glasses in the early days. But it was definitely not common to see him wearing specs for whatever reason. Glasses or no glasses, as a longtime Beatle fan, i do think these photos are pretty cool. Wish I could afford that new book on the making of Sgt Pepper. But with the dollar so weak, the darn thing costs about 600 dollars!
