Who scored on the red carpet?
Who scored and who snored on the Oscar red carpet? Take a look at some of the gorgeous dresses worn by Tinseltown's top actresses and some, not so much, in The Envelope's Red Carpet Rewind photo gallery. Click here. And if you agree/disagree or simply want to put your 10 cents in (inflation), post a comment on this blog item. I'll compile all the reader comments (profanity excluded) on Styles and Scenes on Wednesday. C'mon. Tell the world what you think of this season's Oscar-going gowns.
And for the record. I'm really glad Celine Dion's vintage James Galanos gown from Lily et Cie was securely fastened with double stick tape. It's a lovely color - goes great with her auburn hair - but I think I speak for many who don't want to witness a Celine Dion wardrobe malfunction.

All your comments were spot on- my favorite gown was Cate's with Reese's a close second. Ellen rocked- all in all one of my favorite Oscar's in recent years. Only issue I had- no really memorable acceptance speeches... mostly a snore on that count.
If Elizabeth Snead looks as cool as she writes then she's by far the hottest item on the red carpet!
Elizabeth, loved your commentary on the red carpet. Accurate and funny! Especially liked your lampshade comment about Jennifer Lopez.
Elizabeth, all your fashion comments are right on! Could not add one thing. Any plans to double as a stylist at large for the awards season next year?
As always, you are spot-on and ever so funny! Totally agree that J Lo probably needs to buy a full-length mirror (maybe she's preggers, but who knows?) and that Leo should ditch the wet-head look! Everybody at my Oscar party loved Nicole Kidman's gown but wished someone would have torn that hideous bow off her shoulder. And contrary to the ooh-ing and aah-ing by our local (Dallas area) fashion types, I thought Penelope Cruz was wandering dangerously into Bjork-land with that fugly, pinkish, feathery concoction. Keep up the good work, Elizabeth!
totally agreed that emily blunt looked like a complete stunner. gorgeous. love her! I think reese is reaching new levels of style stardom this awards season--she seems to have been the talk of the red carpet a few times now, hasnt she? (for me she was really the best dressed) and its no news that cate knows how to pick some amazing dresses, but can we talk about her shoes for a minute? now those are HOT.
lucky for jennifer hudson she got to take home something gold OTHER than that disasterous jacket. im dissappointed her style guru, mr. andre leon talley! we expect more from mr.vogue! theres a difference between taking a risk and adding a metallic bolero just for the sake of metallics being popular. maybe there was deeper metaphoric meaning we werent getting? a solar panel tribute to an inconvenient truth perhaps?
Loved your commentary! I agree 100% about Leo and Beyonce. Thank goodness she flashed leg, and not armpits. Reese, Emily and Isla were my top 3 ladies.
Emily Blunt's Calvin Klein dress was by far the most beautiful on the red carpet. I can't say I have ever favored a dress as much as I did hers. I also loved Reese Witherspoon in her Nina Ricci dress. It made me want to do some online shopping, and while having this thought I found out that NET-A-PORTER.com carries both Calvin Klein and Nina Ricci. Quite exciting!
A brilliant read and photo coverage too. As usual Elizabeth Snead not only manages to tell it like it is, but makes it humerous and without malice. Her grasp of the fashion scene is keen and displays an experienced and sharp eye for detail. As for me I know little about real fashion but I know what I like to see when I see it - and incidentally Elizabeth Snead is as cool to look at as she writes. I was dying for her to write a thought bubble to the Celine Dion photo above " Hey does my bum look big in this ?"
