People, people who love Barbra

The Grammy Awards aren't far off. Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2006, to be precise.

But if you're one of those folks (and we know you're out there) who think that the annual music awards show's fashion sense has been going steadily downhill ever since Barbra Streisand wore that faaabulous silver "A Star is Born" gown in 1977 to present a Grammy to George Benson, well, you're in luck.

No, she's not going to be on the show (that we know of, anyway) and if she were going, she certainly wouldn't fit into that frock again. No, sirree, it's Donna Karan off-the-shoulder designer pup tents for the diva these days.

But fans can actually see Babs' metallic gown at The Hollywood Museum, located in the historic Max Factor Building, in the exhibit, "Barbra Streisand: The Legacy Collection," through Feb. 1, 2006.

Among the other costumes on display are gowns and wardrobe worn by Streisand in films such as "The Way We Were," "Yentl," "A Star is Born," "On a Clear Day You Can See Forever," as well as TV shows "My Name is Barbra," "Color Me Barbra," "Judy (Garland) and Friends." There's also a selection of Streisand's elegant evening gowns worn for concerts and special events.

"Streisand is the most accomplished actress-singer-filmmaker of her generation and has millions of devoted fans worldwide," said Donelle Dadigan, president and founder of the museum. "She is the only artist to have received an Oscar, Tony, Emmy, Grammy, Golden Globe, CableACE and Peabody Award."

The exhibit was assembled by Lou Papalas, who owns the largest collection of Barbra Streisand memorabilia in the world and operates the BarbraShop in Palm Springs, Calif. More than 1,000 of items from his collection are on exhibit, ranging from La Barbra's high school yearbooks to club contracts and set decor from her films. Kinda frightening, isn't it?

But hey, everyone needs a hobby. Go to www.thehollywoodmuseum.com for more info.

I just had to confirm this...

She did not win any Tony awards... Twice a nominne (1962 and 1964) and a Special Tony Award...but not actual win and we all know special awards do not count...

Merry Xmas!

Thanks for the coverage in your article. Other than the jab at the end about my collecting being frightening , and your taking a shot at Barbra's weight, it was fun reading. Those who will attend the exhibit will be threilled with it as it is a comprehensive , bioigraphical tour of Barbra's career.

I really wish you would have taken the time to talk to me to find out what my longer term plan is for my collection as it has been well thought out and its aim is to serve a much higher purpose that will benefit many underprivliged and under employed. For now, I have established The Barbra Streisand Legacy Collectors Association. All items that are featured in this collection are not mine, but rather they are items I have searched out from a group of collectors of all types of memorabilia .

The Legacy Collectors have agreed to loan our items to worthwhile, not for profit organizations so they in turn could generate funds to further their accomplishments for the betterment of society. This is the first of what could be a sucession of fund raising activities for other not for profits. The Hollywood Museum will receive 100% of the admission to this exhibit so they can continue to be the respectable and unique repository for Hollywood History that they will preserv and share with the world. Just for the record, I have already been approached for preliminary possibilities to use some of the collection for a fund raiser for the Juvinile Diabetes Foundationin Long Island New York . I am a man with a plan. I am a man who has always accomplished my goals. This iexhibit is just a milestone along the way and is part of a higher level plan.

I ask that you and your readers not to fear what I have done. My collecting was with purpose...and even if it were not, I ask , do all collectors frighten you? What if this were a collection of antique cars, baseball cards , fountain pens or whatever? Is it because my collection is Streisand related that you fear? What do you fear? Please be more specific. At the same time I want to yell, again for the record, that there is no boogie man! The boogie man is NOT real. Many fear the boogie man for what they perceive him to be. I am real!! I am genuine and I am unique! I ask that you get to know me and my plans for my second and self actualizing career before you fear me or what I am doing. I would love to discuss the exhibit and my plans with you and anyone else from the LA Times as you tour the exhibit with me. Come learn . Learn about the good Barbra has done for our world. Learn about the good I want to do. Dont pre-occupy yourself worrying how much weight Barbra has gained or how strange I must be for collecting Rather than fear, face them head on, come appreciate, come enjoy ! I request your ant the LA Times help in the next phase of my plan that will immediately benefit the city of Los Angeles and potentially New York City .

Again ,I am hoping that your comments were in jest and I do realize that people like to read dirt and criticism rather than good! I would really appreciate it if you would take time to meet me, see that I do not have three eyes and that I am not the boogie man. I invite you to meet with me any time this weekend prior to Sunday afternoon when I am leaving town to spend the holidays with my family. If that is not possible, I will be returning on January 6, 2006. If I do not meet you prior to the Holidays I hope that you enjoy yours as mush as I intend to enjoy mine. Please do not loose any sleep over your fear for what I or my collection is all about.

I too can not resist a cheap shot. Who told you you're allowed to rain on my parade? I do not want to have yo cancel my LA Times Subscription like Barbra has! ( actually I can not as I live in West Bloomfield ,Michigan and Palm Desert ,Ca and I subscripe to the local papers.Actually, I could do worse. I can give the LA Times the same treatment in my exhibit as I have the tabloids. Now you have something to fear!

Happy Holidays and thanks for the coverage> It will help! ,
