A lot of people seemed concerned by the ever-growing power of Google over...well, everything. What was once a search engine now does everything except hand you shampoo in the morning, and I heard they're working on a beta for that.

While the backstories seen to date on the show weren't
exactly original, I still feel like the one presented in this episode felt the
most derivative, the least unique, the least...well, Lost. The show deals in
archetypes, to be sure, but quite often these archetypes are centered on
particular personalities: the martyr, the acolyte, the romantic. Things of that
nature.

If I had to rank my favorite couples on the show, I'd have to put Sun and Jin high up on that list. I'd probably rank two people Lost newbies wouldn't know at the top, with Sun/Jin a close second. So it's been interesting at going back to the very first episode that focused on their relationship to see just how it all started. Let's see what Lost did with this couple at the beginning, shall we?

I know, I know, it's hard coming down from the high of "Walkabout." But come down we must from this cloud, no matter what late-90's hard-rock band Bush might think. We're only four episodes into the "We Have to Go Back" series; can't stop now! This episode of Lost features missing water, empty coffins, and important pow-wows. So let's get to it!

More than any episode, this is the one that I point to whenever I get asked (and I do get asked quite often), "What makes Lost so good?" I get that trying to enter the show at this point is a daunting task, but I do feel that if you can make it through the first four episodes of the show, you'll know pretty well whether or not if it's worth your time going forth.

I knew I'd like this episode before I even saw it, given that it shares the same title as one of my favorite eps of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. But instead of The Scooby Gang get their minds wiped by an errant spell, the Lost version shows what happens when people stop being polite, and start lying like mad about their past in tonight's edition of "We Have to Go Back."

Someday we'll learn the true story behind why the two-hour pilot for Lost didn't actually air in its entirety, and was instead split up over two weeks. My Lost brain is hoping for some complex backstory in which the episode was shipped by John Locke, while working for the Hurley-owned box company, on April 8th, the same day that Sun decided to leave her husband.

I hope you enjoy yesterday's first installment of "We Have to Go Back." I'll be posting my recap of "Pilot, Part 2" tomorrow night, but for now, let's look at some other Lost-related videos out there on the series of tubes that is the Internet.

As promised, today we start the "We Have to Go Back" campaign, in which we as a group rewatch Lost from the first episode during the hiatus. And given how much fun it was to revisit the show from Minute 1, this should be a fun experience for me as well as for the many of you doing it with me.
