'Lost': Living in clip
Well, it's not quite Christmas Eve, but it's not the next best thing. Why? Because the Lost video-game comes out tomorrow, that's why! Sure, it's non-canon, and sure, it looks like barely any of the actual actors in the show bothered to do voice-work for it, but c'mon, it's called "Via Domus," people. And if Latin phrases don't get your adrenaline pumping, man, I just don't know what will.
If you don't know a thing about the game, this clip will help explain the premise for you.
An action-survival game sounds dandy, although I would have preferred it if they'd gone completely off the map and just created a Tekken-like game with 1-1 fighting between members of the Lost universe. I'd easily pay $60 to play as Jack pummeling the heck out of Ben while the Mortal Kombat theme plays in the background. You're telling me you wouldn't play a game in which Hurley busts out some E.Honda-esque moves? You know you would. (Incidentally, should this game ever come out? No way I'm ever not Sayid. Although for beginners, it might be best to play as Mikhail, in that he's insanely difficult to actually kill.)
But it's an action-survival game, which more than likely means I'll be absolutely terrible at it. You think it took the Lostaways a long time to break into the hatch? I'll be lucky to enter it by Labor Day. I'll probably have my character poke at it with a stick for three hours before looking at an online walkthrough for aide. That all being said, I'll be periodically updating you all on my progress, combining my love of Lost and my ineptitude in videogames into a scintillating mix never seen on the interwebs before. Should be interesting to say the least.
Since I have to leave soon to be the first in line to buy this game (I'm anticipating a Halo-like crush to ensue for "Via Domus"...ok, not so much), I will leave you with a few other Lost-centric clips I've dug up. The first makes me glad I purchased a Playstation 3, since I'll have much better luck playing the game on that system versus an XBOX360.
If you're a fan of The O.C., or Saturday Night Live, you'll see the gag coming a mile away in this next clip. But it's definitely the best version of this gag on YouTube. (Feel free to peruse the other 4,000 variations on this gag yourself at your own pace.)
I usually find "mixing two things together for comedic value" clips to generally be uninspired, but this one's absolutely brilliant: the theme music from Battlestar: Galactica mashed up with clips from Lost. I especially love everything once the drums kick in halfway through the clip. That's some seriously exciting stuff.
(That being said? Battlestar: Buffy kicks that clips' booty. But both are fantastic.)
There are an alarming, and I do mean ALARMING, number of fan-made clips in which the creator of sad clip edits together 3+ years of footage of their favorite pair on the show set to the cruddiest song in their iTunes playlist. A lot are show-sanctioned pairings (Jack/Kate, Charlie/Claire), and some are not (combinations I dare not even mention, and trust me, this is for your own protection, innocent readers o' mine). I'm all about free speech, but when I'm elected president, my first act of business will be to ban any videos that feature some combination of Ben, Juliet, Mikhail, Frogurt, and Hoobastank. That's change you can believe in, people.
This next clip, however, chooses to focus only on one person, and through clever editing and inspired song choice, had me watching through the very end. Not that there's anything wrong with that. But given my aversion to these types of clips, that's nothing short of a miracle.

Ryan, I too plan on buying the Lost game. I will help you out cause these type of games are what I am so good at (Grand Theft Auto and survival horror fan here, ;) ).
I didn't know the game was so close to release. I might have to go pick it up today on my lunch hour and play it tonight. I hope for the best but am prepared for the worst.
Speaking of the hatch, I have a question. ***uming The Others knew about that hatch, why did they continue to entrust it to Desmond? It seems like that station was pretty important for maintaining the invisibility of the island to the rest of the world. Anybody have any thoughts?
Renee: Excellent question. And one I wish I knew the answer to. Personally, I'd be FASCINATED to know what Ben was up to while Locke was trapped under the blast door.
Here are a couple of Lost clips that combine two of my loves: Lost and They Might Be Giants

Here are a few more non-TMBG clips. I'm sorry but I couldn't include them in my first comment:

I just figured it out: Ben was playing "Via Domus" instead of pushing the button.
I'm brilliant.
Renee, I've been wondering the same thing for quite some time. The Others (at least Ben and Juliet as seen in "Expose") knew about the Swan. It seems incredibly careless for them to abandon it to people outside of the Others' loop. Perhaps they thought no one would be looking for an electromagnetic anomaly if the clock ran down, or they didn't know that "every single one of us [would be] dead" if the button wasn't pressed. Perhaps they really thought that the Swan was a psychological experiment.
I just found this at Lostpedia in the entry for The Swan: "In the March 20, 2007 Official Lost Podcast, Carlton Cuse confirmed that The Others had no knowledge of the Swan station." If that's the case, what did they think they were looking at in the Pearl's monitors?
Drat: looks like the game comes out tomorrow, not today. Weird: I thought games came out on Tuesdays, like movies. Apologies to anyone I sent scurrying to the store!
Will at least rent this game, but likely will buy it and play through it and trade it in within a few weeks. Looks fun, but not in canon and no real replayability that I see. Still, it is Lost and I am hooked to anything Lost related.
