Lost - Zap2it's Guide to Lost

The beginning of the beginning

Matthewfox_lost_s4_240I've spent the last few months trying to analyze some of the larger mysteries of Lost: looking at clues from past seasons, mobisodes, trailers, and alternate-reality games in order to provide the deepest, widest canvas possible as I, along with the rest of you, sought to spend the months between seasons in the least painful manner possible.

Well, that all changes this week, with the start of the (sadly shortened) Season 4 this Thursday, January 31st.  With a bevy of new narrative on the way, you'll get more entries per week here on the blog (I'm thinking 6-8, at least). You'll get the most up-to-the-minute analysis, with episode recaps going up each Thursday over at Zap2It's It Happened One Night blog.  The theories will still come fast and furious, but they will be completely within the context of Season 4.

In short, it will resemble a lot of what many of you already like about this blog, only brought completely up to date. If you have friends who enjoy the show, make sure you point them this way before the 31st: they might have a hard time keeping up after Season 4's premiere episode, "The Beginning of the End," airs.

But for now, for one day, let's put all of the heavy theorizing aside and list what we hope to get solved/revealed in the next eight weeks. I have a few things on my wishlist:

  • The return of Michael/Walt
  • An explanation of the Freighters
  • A better sense of how big the time difference is between here and the Island
  • The long-promised Rousseau flashback
  • Locke striking Jack with a clue-by-four
  • Ben, Ben, and more Ben

There's a lot more, obviously, but those are highlights for me.

What are you looking forward to in Season 4? Leave your responses below.

Ryan also posts every 108 minutes over at Boob Tube Dude.

The long-promised Libby flashback

Who/When is Jacob?

What city is that in the water?

Who was in the coffin?

Why were they building a runway?

What is the four-toed statue all about?

Why would Bea Klugh rather be shot dead than be captured?

How did Mikhail get speared through the heart and be able to grenade the Looking Gl***?

How come Juliet went from being soft and weak in the real world, to super bad *** and ninja-like?

Did John Locke really blow up the submarine? Why was he all wet?

What is the temple, who is there, and where are the kids?

What is the deal with Cindy?

What is the meaning of the tatoo on Jack's arm that is above the tatooed letters that say "he walks among them, but he isn't one of them"?

What does the mark on Juliet's back mean?

What is the effect of being in Room 23? What is its purpose?

How/Why or Who killed Christian Shepard? And who did Sawyer "kill in cold blood" one day before he got on Flight 815? Any connection?

Will Jack discover that Claire's his half-sister?

Will the Giants beat down the Patriots in the Superbowl? Perhaps Mittelos Bioscience can intervene and have Tom Brady get hit by a bus?

WHY ARE THEY ALL ON THE PLANE?!! does the interplay between Losties before they got on the plane mean anything besides a metamessage about the world being small after all (according to Disney)?

SMOKEY, what's up widdat?

who are Adam and Eve?

an explanation on Annie.

Ryan, you HAVE to see the latest mobisode, "So It Begins". So many questions from 2 tiny minutes of Lost!

Oh. My. God.

Can't WAIT to break this down tonight. Head. Spinning.

Jeff! Thank you!

Ryan - OMG is right - I need Boob Tube Dude theories soon!!!

Here's a preview:

"Who else besides Jack supposedly has work to do?"

"How might the game of backgammon be instructive in understanding Lost as a whole?

No problem, guys! Hope you enjoyed it as much as I did!

I think Jack's 'work' is very different from John's work. Jack's work, especially given the time in which it's mentioned, is to act as a doctor and save the lives of the plane crash survivors. John's work, on the other hand, is more about saving the Island and those who choose to live on it.

Jeff: As per usual, I think it goes a LOT deeper than that.

What if Jack's "work" is to bring the Freighters to the Island?

I'll explain my reasoning tonight, but it's food for thought.

Can't wait to read your analysis, Ryan :D
