Over the edge
I think we could all you a little mental break after yesterday's overly analytical essay. I mean, that was dense even for me. And I'm pretty dense. Wait, I have the sneaking suspicion that came out wrong. Oh well, too late now, it's on Al Gore's interwebs for all to see.
Let's take a look at a few Lost-related items, and I promise not to mention Abaddon nor any words rhyming with it. Not that many things rhyme with Abaddon. So long as I avoid linking Jacob to John Madden, I should be in the clear.
Razor's Edge
As reader "mri" pointed out yesterday, there's a character in Find 815 named Mr. Ockham, his last name a more than likely shout out to "Ockham's razor," a theory in which the simplest solution is usually the correct one. As one who spends his weeks trying to top the last convoluted theory I had with a newer, even more outlandish one, I hate this freakin' razor.
Actually, that's not entirely true. I'd like to think that a lot of my theories are based on as realistic a possibility as can be. Problem is, for me or any Lost theorist, is that we don't have all the pieces of information necessary from which to draw the most logical conclusion. It's fairly impossible to come up with a satisfactory origin story for the smoke monster, given how little we know about it. It's equally as plausible that it's a by-product of the infamous "incident" or an entity that has existed on the Island for as long as the Island itself has. We just don't know.
But I'll try to keep Ockham's razor in mind as I proceed over the next few weeks. Heck, I'll start right now. Let me apply this theory to some burning questions on the show.

How does Ben recruits people to join the Others?
eHarmony.
Why does Jacob make so many lists?
Because he's Santa Claus.
Why does Richard Alpert never seem to age?
Botox and pilates.
Why does the statue only have four toes?
Because the original inhabitants of the Island worshiped Homer Simpson.

Wow, I should do this more often. Lord knows I'd stave off carpal tunnel easier if I took this route on a more frequent basis.
The Day the Earth-JJ Stood Still
We're only one week away from finally learning that my theory about Cloverfield really being a Lost movie is completely false. I couldn't be more excited than if I learned I'd won a 3-day, 2-night stay in Room 23!
If you need a primer, or a refresher, on my theory, be sure to read all about it. And after that, make sure to zip on over to Zap2It's Misfits of Sci-Fi, where I along with two of Zap2It's finest have been having ourselves a nice little roundtable about the movie. Don't worry, there's plenty of Slusho to go around.
Video Killed the Lostaway Star
Sign #756 that I'm getting old: I hate more things on YouTube than I enjoy. It's a good signpost for getting old and crotchety, I've decided. It's up there with "finding out you've got ear hair" and "finding yourself laughing at reruns of Everybody Loves Raymond."
That being said, this is a pretty hysterical fan-made video. Too often, fan-made videos turn into nothing but slo-mo shots of their favorite actors set to god-awful Nickelback songs, or disturbingly edited sequences of two characters a certain 17-year old wishes would get together like, yesterday, OMG. But this video brings the goods. I can't wait for the sequel, in which Artz lovingly croons "Part of Your World" while eyeing Jack and company jealously.
Ryan also posts every 108 minutes over at Boob Tube Dude.

my reference to Ockham's razor was in NO WAY intended as a slap on your theories, i agree that the path you've been travelling is as simple as the Lost world will allow and lovelovelove what you have to say about the show. that being said, i think the producers enjoy toying with those who blog their fingers bloody about the show and tossed in that little reference in order to make us all laugh at ourselves.
hugs and kisses...
I agree that it is probably just the producers f'ing with us. That being said, wouldn't it be something if the show really is a lot simpler then we make it out to be. If that's the case then we're all crazy.
MRI: I didn't take it as a slap at all. Don't worry!
I also am in the nice position of 1) having a lot of time on my hands, and 2) not caring at all how wrong I am about any particular theory. It's a great place to inhabit.
PHEW! :-)
I know this isn't directly related to this post, but when ben and locke "see" jacob, if you freeze the image, you can clearly see that it is just locke sitting there with a wig. We never actually see jacob.
But you probably knew this already
Oh man, that video was the BEST!!!! I was laughing so hard! It totally made my day. It was incredibly accurate and creative. Sign #756 I'm a loser with no life: I have finished the video and still laughing out loud.
i almost prefer the video of locke and ben doing "i just can't wait to be king" from the lion king.
