Surf's up for 'Lost'

By now, you may already have heard the news: the future syndication of Lost has been announced.

"Geek-centric cable networks Sci Fi and G4 have secured rerun rights to the ABC series, ensuring that "Lost" obsessives who have worn out their DVDs will have a place to watch the series beyond the show's projected 2010 end date."

I have to say that both of these networks make sense as potential homes for your favorite show and mine. I mean, sure, I'll miss seeing Mansquito as much as the next person, but I will relish being able to turn on the Sci Fi network at pretty much any hour of the day and either see a battleship, a stargate, or a hatch. That's my kind of network.

As for G4, well, they need all the programming they can get, to be frank. Attack of the Show and X-Play are both stellar, but mankind can only endure so many episodes of Ninja Warrior in one era. Being able to air blocks of Lost will take away from my nightly Morgan Webb worship, but will allow me to indulge in the hotness that is Jin. I don't care if I am heterosexual: that man brings the pretty.

These networks will be fine homes for the show, in either case. I mean, imagine if other networks had gotten hold of the show? Who knows what would have happened to our beloved drama.

  • PBS: The show would be brought to you by the numbers 4 and 8, and the letter Q.
  • MTV: You'd only see twenty percent of each episode, interrupted by the cheering of the Others as Jack makes yet another tactical blunder that puts the Lostaways directly into the path of peril.
  • HGTV: They would run marathons with ridiculous themes such as "Hatch Hunters," My Secret Mysterious Island Is Worth What?" and "Sonar Fence Appeal."

So I think we can all agree we dodged a few bullets there.

Are you excited by this syndication news? Or will you simply rewatch your DVDs over and over and over? And in what mysterious, profound way did Sci Fi and G4 overlap in their time before syndication?

This news has 0 impact on me as I buy the DVDs and can watch the eps any time I wish w/o having to worry about catching it at a given scheduled airing.

As an aside, I'm glad to see this blog as I can keep up on all things Lost without having to do any of the legwork myself. :)

For a heavily serialized drama like Lost, catching an episode on syndication while DVDs are available is craziness.

eh, i'm lazy and besides if i'm somewhere besides home, its nice to know that i can turn over to G4 and Sci Fi to get Lost.
BTW, you can't ever have too much Ninja Warrior. Japanese TV obviously gets away with a lot more than we do. The first person that cracked their head after falling off the monkey bars would have sued the network for every penny here in the US.
