Home is where the marshals are on 'Lost'
You can't go home again. Everyone get that?
To me, that was the big takeaway from this week's Lost, which is to say it wasn't a very big takeaway. It's a point that's been driven home repeatedly on the show, and in particular in recent episodes, so seeing it again in Kate's flashback and the parallel present-day action didn't tell us much we don't already know.
That's not to say, though, that the episode wasn't worthwhile in spots. There was a certain amount of wheel-spinning, but both the flashback and the present-day story contained bits of information that we hadn't seen previously, and the things it appeared to set up seemed promising too.
We knew Kate and her mom were on the outs over what she did to her stepdad, so that portion of the flashback didn't reveal anything to us. More interesting, obviously, was the connection it revealed between her and Sawyer via his con victim/mother of his child, Cassidy (the always solid Kim Dickens).
I'll be curious to see if the two of them ever figure out they share an acquaintance, and if so, what it might mean. Will that piss Kate off even more, given her history with Sawyer and the fact that Cassidy is one of the few decent things we've seen happen to her in pre-crash life?
In the present, the Defiant Ones-inspired A-plot had the Others leaving Juliet behind, cuffed to Kate in the middle of the jungle, after they bugged out for parts unknown -- with Locke in tow. Locke is apparently going with them of his own accord, which I can only assume has to do with the sudden appearance of his dad and his ongoing desire to unlock the secrets of the island (which dovetails nicely with Ben's own curiosity).
No surprise they'd leave the other three crash survivors behind, but why Juliet? I'm stuck on something she said shortly after Kate discovered their predicament: "Ben likes to play mind games." Consider the seed of doubt as to Juliet's presence firmly planted in my mind. It may turn out to be that Ben just left her there because she wasn't useful to him anymore, but unless that bears out, I'm with Sayid in my distrust of her.
Plus, hey, another monster sighting. Smoky appeared to have a new trick this time, with the brilliant flashes of light while Kate and Juliet were hiding in the trees. And it apparently can't break through the security perimeter the Others have around their village, which probably helped them sleep a little better.
My favorite part of the episode, though, had the least to do with any ongoing mysteries. Hurley's "worst con in the history of cons" on Sawyer to get him to be nicer to people was just fun to watch, mostly because Jorge Garcia and Josh Holloway play off each other so well. If those crazy kids ever make it off the island, they should totally get a sitcom.
More seriously, though, Hurley's point about the other castaways looking to Sawyer as a leader is well taken. Seeing as how Jack returns to the beach next week, he may not need to show those qualities in the immediate future, but I suspect they'll be needed before the series is out. (Nice touch, also, in subtly showing that all is not forgiven between him and Sun.)
We have seven episodes of Lost left this season, and it still feels like there's quite a bit of ground to cover. So I'm hoping this will be the last leisurely week we see -- at least until next year.
Your thoughts? Did we need another Kate flashback? And is Juliet working all on her own?

Im still undecided about Juliet, but my gut tells me that she is working with Ben. Interesting thing about Smoky is that I think it is apart of Dharma. Juliet says she doesnt know what it is, but that the security will stop it. So, I think that is something from Dharma. Next week looks promising, and I honestly think secrets will be revealed.
Another important question that I think needs to be asked? IF everybody moved out of Otherville, where is Rousseau? Are we going to get a possible confrontation with them and her? Cuz that could be sweet.
These post-break episodes have been great. After the turkish prison-like torture of having to survive the "Others Mini Marathon" of the first half of the season, the writing team has gotten it right and reverted back to the things that have made this show great. The flashback this time, to me, wasn't nearly as irritating. (Yes, sometimes they tend to get in the way of the real story. Not last week, but most def the week before.) There was a lot of info there.
I do not trust Juliet, either. She is totally untrustworthy. Think about it--why lock her up and give her a key? That action/remedy cancels itself out. Which means that she is a plant. I was happy, however , to see Kate whoop her tail. The whole judo flip thing at the camp was too much to believe.
Finally, I actually was agreeing with the Sawyer/leader thing. Sometimes I think the actor that plays him lacks a little depth in his delivery. But sometimes his character does generate sympathy. I could see him as a leader. I could also see him as the new Han Solo. Sidenote hahahaha.
Why not just inhabit the abandoned camp? Hmmm.........
I totally do NOT trust Juliet. She is definetely working with Ben on this one. It is interesting that Locke is now one of the others. It seems these people are hypocritical, they have a list which Kate is no on because of her past, yet they will attack, kidnap, torture, and kill the survivors. The big question is and the first I would ask Juliet is how do you know so much about everyone on the island? How does she know so much about Jack????

Why wouldn't Jack, Sayed and Kate gather their Survivors and return to Othersville where they can live in comfortable housing with running water and electricity. Locke will become one of the Others. That makes sense.
originally i thought that smokey was afraid of juliet and thats why the cool flashes of light - but it clearly was fine chasing them afterwards. also it was interesting how it appeared after kate hurt juliet - maybe it was trying to protect juliet - who by the way i NO LONGER trust anymore - sayid knows all!!!!!
Was it just me or did Kate and con girl have some sexual tension. I half expected Kate to give her a kiss when she got out of the car.
I personally love Juilet and her real-life counterpart, Elizabeth Mitchell. So i want Juilet to get along with all the other Losties, more importantly Kate because she will influence Sun & Claire's opinion (they all seem like friends), and of course I love Kate too.
Last nights episode was really good, every aspect of it.
amen brotha! They need to relocate to Otherville, because they'll finally have some real shelter and get the sand out of their shorts! Juliet is up to something and Jack should know by now to trust Sayid over everyone else. It looks like he corners her next week to get some information from her including more on the Claire kidnapping. This once again seems like a first season episode with the good pacing, intercuts between the main plot and the subplot, and the flashback complimenting the main plot as well. And as always, two characters cross paths never realizing that they both share a common friend/lover/father. Always good to see Sawyer in a comedy mode and how funny was his "Guess i can forget about the Korean vote"? He always interacts so well with Hurley and i hope they keep it going. Locke going with the others pretty much continues what they began in the first season with Locke and Jack at odds and now they will face off down the line i'm sure. Can't wait for next week!
I would think moving them all to Otherville would be the kind of thing that people wouldn't like, because it takes them away from the beach we are so used to. Besides, it may not be safe there. Who knows what might be boobie-trapped.
It wasn't as good as several recent eps, but it was a good one. I felt like not a whole lot happened until the last 10 minutes, but we got some interesting tidbits out of Juliet, if anything she says can be trusted. But I believe her when she says they don't know what Smokie is.
My big question is, where did the Others go? Only plausible answer I see is back to Alcatraz.
