Joshholloway_lost_240_007The season premiere of Lost is but 16 days away (16 -- that's one of the numbers!), and those of you who have been freeze-framing your season two DVDs and poring over Lost Experience message boards for the past three months will be happy to hear that ABC has released its official synopsis of the season premiere.

Less exciting is the synopsis itself, which we now reprint in its entirety:

"In the season premiere episode, 'A Tale of Two Cities,' Jack, Kate and Sawyer begin to discover what they are up against as prisoners of The Others."

The fact that the network is giving us only 27 words to go on, though, won't stop us from spinning a couple of theories. Take that episode title, for instance. It could, and probably does, refer to the fact that we might be dividing our time between the Flight 815 survivors' camp and the Others outpost this season.

But, those of you who were paying attention in 10th-grade English will doubtless recognize, A Tale of Two Cities is also the title of the classic Charles Dickens novel about the French Revolution, which begins with the famous line "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity ..." -- it's not hard to interpret those words as having meaning for the folks on our mysterious island.

Are The Others meant to be the revolutionaries, and the crash survivors, with all their Dharma supplies and whatnot, the aristocracy? Will someone who looks a great deal like one of Lost's characters sacrifice himself for the greater good, and to give his own life meaning? Does one of The Others knit?

And let's not forget the prominent placement another Dickens work, Our Mutual Friend, received in last season's finale.

We'll probably be keeping up with Lost in this space throughout the season, so check back with us the day after each episode airs. For now, though, let the theorizing, Dickensian and otherwise, commence.

the writers will have a ****ens of a time keeping me interested if they don't hatch up a decent story soon!

What are you talking about Lewis...the LOST story has been great if not amazing so far. Keep it up this way we love the mystery.

Now that Sawyer knows now that Hurley is Hugo and is worth over 100 million, he will eventually swindle Hurley out of his money and Hurley''s bad luck will transfer to Sawyer at which point Sawyer will be be beyond desperate to give Hurley back his money. In final few minutes of season finale, Sawyer did learn Hurley's real name. What a con man like Sawyer is going to see in Hurley's millions, has yet to be seen.

This show is awesome! I do think that the writers are going to reveal things about the others that we've never thought about. So far, we've only seen them through the eyes of the crashed ones. We have no idea what they're all about!

How can you be anything but interested? Lost is the only show that you can't miss a moment or you will be...well...LOST. Try thinking rather than mindlessly watching.

touchy crowd these lost fans, but don't worry I'm one of the good guys!

The only scary thing about the show's writing is that it's so good, you can't help but fear they're gonna wreck it at some point.

I've never been a fanboy of anything except this show. I wish I could be more arrogant and critical of the show but it's absolutely flawless.

that first episode stunk!
