Twitter'SYTYCDance': Pauline & Peter speak, plus Nigel talks Nathan Trasoras & Phillip Chbeeb
At "So You Think You Can Dance" last night for the first straight-up elimination show, I was able to spend some alone time with the week's casualties, tapper Peter Sabasino and jazz dancer Pauline Mata.
The pair talked about what's next for them and Peter weighed in on tap's presence in the competition, as well as which finalists he plans to move in with...
I also spoke to judge Nigel Lythgoe about letting the third and final tapper go, why he was so hard on fan favorite Nathan Trasoras during the ep and whether or not he's still thinking about welcoming season 5's Phillip Chbeeb back on the show to choreograph.
When Nigel and I talked just weeks ago, Phillip was the only season 5 name he mentioned when asked about the next possible alum choreographers. He seemed down to have the expert popper join the likes of Travis Wall, Benji Schwimmer, Dmitry Chaplin and Anya Garnis, but I guess he's got a reservation or two now...
By the way, I spoke with hip hop choreographer Dave Scott -- who did this week's Apocalypto-inspired group routine -- after the show and he did not hesitate to express his support for Phillip's return. When I asked him if he thought the popper style would be too difficult for future contestants to pick up, he said "No, I think they'll get it, I think it would be dope. It would be a different [flavor] in the mix. And that's what it's about, throwin' them under the bus a bit anyway. They're going to get out in the real world and have to deal with these different styles, so why not have them go through it on the show. Plus, it'll be entertaining."
Agreed, Dave Scott. Agreed!
Come on, Nigel. Bring Phillip back to teach some popping in season 7. Pleeeeease? Let him start with a non-competition group routine if you're so nervous about it, we know he'll find a way to make it work.

Yes to Phillip! It'll be difficult for them to learn the moves, but a great growing experience. And Phillip adds great character to his pieces, I'm sure he'll stir up a great story if given the chance.

Maybe you should get to know the show and who Nigel is... and his accomplishments before you go around broadcasting something you obviously know nothing about. People like you are why half the time it isn't the most qualified person who wins. If you are going to submit a response maybe add a little more to it to show that you arent just some 1st grader with access to a computer.
Us dancers have the greatest respect for him and what he has done for dancing altogether. Before him dance was viewed by most as a 'hobby' for little girls and he has shown the world that it is not only a beautiful sport but intense and amazing to watch, for anyone. So ya I'm sure thats what it is he's jealous of a rising talent, doubtful!
Oh Good Lord! I'm quite sure Nigel is NOT jealous that he's not "hott" like Nathan. That comment was as immature as Nathan's attitude. I've loved Nathan and Mollee in the past two weeks but Nathan was BAD this week. Mollee wasn't quite as bad but still out of her element. Nigel is right to criticize.
Back to Phillip. I agree with Dave Scott. This is what SYTYCD is about. I understand Nigel's reservations but I think Phillip as choreographer WILL be DOPE.

If you look at the top four dancers from the last couple years Nathan and Mollee do not hold a candle. The reason I say this is because maturity wise they are not quite ready. Although their dancing was good enough to get them in the competition this year it is a shame that they were not told to come back next year. Like Nigel stated they Mollee and Nathan will get votes from younger viewers, who are voting for their favorites because they think they are Cute or Hot, not necessarily because they are the best dancers. Nigel was totally right in what he said to both Nathan and Mollee and the viewers.

YES to Phillip - I only saw season 5 and fell head over for him - and all the other kids on the show, this season seems like a let down, but I'm pulling for Legacy & Russell. Anyway how can we get DCP to put season 5 on DVD so I can have all the episodes?? Can we start a movement???
